Your information seems vague to me. What ECU are you running? Your car is a 96 so its OBD2. If your running an OBD1 P30 ECU then you will need to get a OBD2 to OBD1 Conversion harness so you can correctly plug in the OBD1 ECU. Or, get your hands on a 99-00 Civic Si(EM1) P2T OBD2B ECU and run that.

If you get a '96 - '98 5 speed EX harness the whole thing will be plug and plan, other than you will need to manually run the wiring for the secondary O2 sensor. All other '96 - '98 harnesses are going to require some minor modifications.

Re: 96 lx b16 swap issues
5 speed requires extra work for the IACV and starting circuit and IIRC the backup lights. It's easier to add the vtec wiring to a 5 speed Y7 harness than to mod an automatic Y8 harness.

thats is true, now adays u can go one ebay and type in "vtec subharness) they are 25 bux and u use the y7 harness... check local craigslist for the harness

Re: 96 lx b16 swap issues
thank you very much for the information pertaining to the vtec subharness i was able to find one at rywire.com that requires no soldering. im sorry if i am asking stupid questions but need to know what a 96-98 civic cx engine harness needs to work with a b16 other than the vtec subharness and o2 sensor extension.

Re: 96 lx b16 swap issues
You'll also need to place your intake air temperature sensor into the intake arm as the B16 won't have a place on the intake manifold for it. The CKF sensor plug by the crank also may need to be swapped over for a two wire plug. You will need a subharness for VTEC and the knock sensor. As stated above you will need to extend the second O2 and swap to a two wire IACV plug. Check my signature below for anything you might need.

Re: 96 lx b16 swap issues
does anyone have a schematic or a picture of a civic ex engine harness because as far as i can tell the harness i have in my car has been swapped for a ex harness and is not the cx harness that i thought i had. the problem is i have two plugs missing and i need to know what the knock sensor plug looks like.
