Damn, you have to have some huge ***** and alot of luck to try and make 350 on stock rods. Thats gonna be around 380 crank horsepower on 130-170hp honda n/a rods.

Actually, the truth lies somewhere between Larry's claims and the reality of the matter. Yes, EXCELLENT tuning can allow for some nasty power numbers, but in practice I wouldn't go past 250-275 whp on an LS if you wanted any long term reliability. Varying manufacturing tolerances between production runs, manufacturing defects, factory freaks, etc, all play a part in the engines that hold the eye popping power levels for any decent length of time.

I wish I could get one to. But i just linked it to show that these motors can take more power then most people think. I know you can make one hit say 500whp once, but only once. Realiability is what we all need. And as J says, in between the truth of having that power and having realiabilty is where there is a happy medium.
A number of guys apparently have 500whp stock GSRs rolling around... but they don't last long. I doubt one would last me a trip to the grocery store and back... I like to flog my cars.

Theres been a few that have held for some time over 400whp up here...but then again i would put more trust in b18c/b16a rods than LS rods.

with good rod bolts and polishing the beams the stock rods should handle alot of power but as always your car will find the weakest links
remember detonation will kill even the best aftermarket rods. so alot of factors are invovled. I am just getting into the thought of a turo set up on my 01 type r. there is a ton of things to do to be able to drive it daily with reliability. thanks to honda tuning I am learning more every day!

Kind of dodging the question, but I just don't get why you wouldn't go out and buy some Eagles at minimum for $300.

I guess since my motor is still strong I will run stock everything for the time being and build when I have too. I guess thats my reason for running all stock internals.
The rod bolt is not the weak link of the Honda rod, and has little to do with compressive loads found in turbo engines. Rod bolts really get tweaked at high rpms due to being stressed having to stop the piston as it approaches TDC... and stock LS units *when properly torqued and not reused* survive 8500 rpms with a heavy B20B/Z piston dragging at them. A number of the early Honda-Challenge engines, which require OEM internals, are running around in daily drivers with complete reliability.
Care to explain what polishing a rod does for strength? Beyond the minor improvement that shot peening performs by compressing the outer skin of a rod, which helps resist cracking that can occur under sideloading, I can't see anything else to be accomplished with a stock rod.
