On their turbo, rotate the housings to fit properly? My center section is 180 out of turn. The oil feed is on the bottom, and the oil return is pointing "up".........

Yes, sometimes they do have to be rotated to fit. There are bolts on the housing which U loosen up to allow movement.

Thanks for the quick reply dude, I figured as much but I just didn't want to losssen the bolts up and find that I needed to replace a seal or something because I rotated it.

Clocking the turbo....yeah...just loosen then barely...it will turn. You can turn both sections around.

of course you have to how does the turbo manufacturer know the positioning of your motor/ic/oil feed etc.. use one half turn on the backing plate bolts on compessor side and rotate to the desired position, tighten and repeat on turbine side. make sure while rotating into position not to touch / damage blades.

Thank you to most for your pateince with my ignorance. I just paid 3k for something and I'd rather not F it up by taking something aprt i'm not suppose to. I was 90% sure that I'd have to rotate the housings, I just wanted confirmation.

Oh yeah, rotating the center section is easily done. Two things to beware.

1. The exhaust side should be easier to move since it is almost always held on by plates and bolts. The compressor side can be tricky. Some turbos have big-a$$ snap-rings that can be a major bitch to remove. You have to remove it to rotate and it can be a pain to reassemble.

2. Check and re-check the torque on the bolts you loosen. I have had mine loosen on me more than once.

Good luck.

Randy

Is red RTV gasket sealant suitable for use between the turbo and manifold? I hope so, b/c the guy helping me today insisted that it was......i'm just kinda wary tho....

I don't believe ANY gasket sealant will handle the temperature of the manifold/turbine interface. Most people just use a T3 turbine stainless steel gasket available at your friendly local ford dealer (gasket would fit a Thunderbird turbo, Mercur turbo, and any number of turbo trucks).
