Default CTR N1 crank pulley war!!! when will it stop???????

You know I did a very extensive search and read a whole lot of opinions. It seems to this day after all these years thats all we H-T members have to go by. There are people that don't have them and say do ever get them.(no harmonic balancers!!!) Then there are the people that have them and say hey...I've had mine for years and no problems.....buy it!
I have yet to read in any post that someones motor dies b/c of the ctr n1 pulley. I just ordered mine and was curious about why this debate is so crazily debated.
I wisk Honda of Japan would log on to honda-tech and say hey h-t members...our ctr n1 pulley is harmonicly balanced and its cool for your b-series motor. Or the other way around..its for race only and use it at your own risk.
I just think its soo crazy how back and fourth this issue is....just wish someone had or could get a straight answer from someone who knows.

i searched alot about that topic too

they apparently cause oil pump gear to break, i also would not be surprised if alot of the cams breaking were running ctr or unorthodox racing pullies too. it puts extra strain through the timing belt. flame away, thats what i concluded and i dont think its worth the risk.

i'm sick of answering these threads.... just go on whats been posted in the past. sometimes controversial issues are just that- controversial, with only opinions to back them up. i read previous threads and chose to get it, and don't regret it at all. my jdm b16a has seen no ill side effects from my CTR N1 race pulley. driven very hard for 20,000 with it. theres 1 opinion to add to the CTR N1 pulley side.

EDIT: to respond to euclid's post, i got the b16a swap 25000+miles ago. Never changed timing belt, or water pump, or oil pump, and camshafts are in excellent shape. only thing i did internally since swap was a valve adjustment 8,000miles ago.

i think it depends on the setup and the use of the car. a reletively stock motor being daily driven on full face sprung clutch disk will not see the same abuse as a car built primarily for drag racing or roadrace and auto-x.
violent standing start launches, constant 9000+rpm and agressive shifting with an unsprung pucked disk all while outputting much more torque.

if oilpump gear shatters the engine is with 90% certainty a total loss, alot of people change to fluidamper or ATI for the added insurance.
i will clarify my original stament and again say N1 pully is not worth the risk, but depends on the application, but there would be 10 mods i would do to a dialy driver for more reliable power before an N1 pully anyway.

I'd also agree with it not being worth the risk. If anything, get a stock pulley, machine off the a/c and p/s, and you're good to go.

Personally, I'm a ***** and don't feel like racing with R-compounds and no p/s so I'll never find out...

total of 100000 miles on many different engines!!!

just change the pulley to the new engine everytime i want to upgrade....most miles.....38k on one with the pulley

no problems

im not too sure about the downside of it, but theres alot of positives ive experienced
been abusing my gsr motor for 2 years with a close ratio tranny on the freeway.

of course it is gonna affect something down the road, if you plan on going 200,000 miles of spirited driving then the pulley is not for you,.

It is an OEM part. It is balanced otherwise Honda would not have put it on the Civic R. You can use it without any adverse effects.

they are right pulley will do little to break oil gear. I would be more worried about unbalanced flywheel and clutch assembly than pulley.
