How do you have the valve cover so you can adjust the cam gears?

LIke do you have it cut ?

unless u want to take i off everytime to adjust it

 

do you cut whole where the cam gears are in the valve cover and the timing pulley cover or do you just cut the part away from the valve cover that covers the cam gears up

if anyone has any pics it would be nice

 

you can get it "moon cut" i believe is the term

I just used a whiz wheel and cut off the side of the vavle cover. It is'nt the prettiest job but it was free and gets the job done

 

i guess it's just a hole cutter, but what do you use to get the nice moon cuts? dremel and patience? sorry, i don't have lots of tools to know

just put the the valve cover on the motor and mark with a pencil the middle and the edges of the cam gears take it off use a compass and draw the half circles, then with a dremel cut em and sand smooth

 

The way that they make the "Moon Cut outs" is on a Mill, do it the cheap way, get a cut off took and cut off the Cam gear side of the valve cover.

PMP Designs (The company that did the red-top in the pic) LASER-cuts their valvecovers. By far, it's the cleanest cut you can get. It's pricey, though. They charge like $75 just to cut the cover (not including shipping). Friend of mine had one, and it was NIIIICE. The F*CKER sold it w/o saying ANYTHING to me . I'm not too happy about that, since he had to have known I'd be interested in it. Anyway.....the moon-cuts are the best way to go, if you don't mind shelling out the cash to have it done. I'm sure a machine shop would do it for considerably less than PMP charges.

What are you going to use for your pilot hole??

 

you dont have to have a pilot hole to use a hole saw. plus i have a drill press.

 

I just bought a temporary valve cover that was already cut. It just had the side completely cut off. And with the valve cover I took off, I'm going to have it moon cut and powder-coated. After that I can just sell off the cut valve cover.
