Default where does torque come from? in a turbo honda

when i compare my dyno torque numbers to other cars with similar setups mine seems a bit low. where does the torque "come from"? are there different mods that add torque, i remember reading about WRX's adding a 4" downpipe and there was a big jump in torque but not hp....

I'm thinking alot of it has to do with where the turbo fully spools.

Many VWs with TINY turbos make peak torque and full boost at 2000rpms...creating the illusion that they are fast, but in reality aren't.

Most engines also have more displacement, and are optimized for more grunt in the low end.
