Default do you think its rod knock??

hey guys, for the past few weeks i have been hearing this odd noise from my engine. i dont know if it was there all the time or if i just started noticing it now (funny how that can happen). i think it might be rod knock. as i accel through the gears it will make no noise below 2500 then right around 3000 or so i hear the noise and as i keep reving it fades out. its hard to describe the sound i will post a video as soon as i can. i dont hear the noise when the engine is cold but once it warm up for a while i hear it. it is louder when i let off the gas to shift also (i shift at 3K-ish). is this common for rod knock? there is no loud knocking noises at idle or anything other than valve and injector click and it doesnt get louder as rpm increases.

Trust me I think if you had a rod knock/piston slap youd hear it all the time anytime.

sounds more like a valvetrain ordeal, wouldnt hurt to pull your valve cover and check over everything.

Any loss of power?

Picture taking a large metal pipe and swinging it around wildly in a metal trash can. That's rod knock.

how many miles? Oil changes? Loss of power?oil pressure? How about **** rappin the little engine til it blows then ya might find the problem or just try dropping your mani downpipe and pan and check out the wear pattern if any on the bearings oh ya and check the cam gear bolt they do loosen or even break. ok now down to business here is a good and easy test pull all your plugs bring a piston towards the top of its stroke using a 17mm socket on the crank and use a long extensionin down the spark plug tube to indicate downstroke down just a little bit and after that with the tool still in the hole push down and listen for the KNOCK!!
good luck. let me know what ya find

Sounds kinda like mine... mine has a busted crank bearing. Wich is just as fatal.

Take out the spark caps one at a time, and carefully rev the engine. If at a point the knocking stops.... you know it's your bottom end crapping out on you. And what cil# it's from.

ok, im gonna try all this **** and see if i can figure it out. hopefully its something that can get fixed by a valve adjustment. the valves have never been adjusted an d the motor has a tad over 60K miles on it. just did an oil change the other day.

it could very easily be a rocker arm. check your rocker arms for sure. pull the all off and check to see if any of them are getting holes in them from the push rods.

Drain your oil into a clean pan, pour it out.. Look for a copper mine. You'd have a copper mine if you spun a rod bearing.

A crapload of shavings basically. I really dont think its rod knock as mentioned before, you'd hear it all the time, Idle, cruising, accel, anytime.
One thing to check is timing belt tension, my belt got loose once and when I hit 2500 it got a certain frequency or something and it slapped like a bitch against the t-belt cover....got quiter once I got past 2500. Pull the upper cover off and rev the sucker, look for it hitting right where the upper cover connects to the lower. Simple check.
