Hey all I have a very loud knock coming from the left side of the engine which first started on the freeway and got worse on acceleration...now it is non stop even when idling and louder as i push on the gas. if i let it idle it eventually gives up and dies. what could this be? what should i check for if i open up the valve cover and could bad or low oil be the problem? or changing out the spark plugs?

if its the tranny side it could be the shift fork on the throw-out bearing.Thats what my noise is.it would need to be greased in the back of it..but not if it causes it to die. gl

and you say you take it on the freeway with the knock.......?
not a good idea.....its going to lock up on you sooner or later....
trust me....been there done that.......

No, it started making the loud knocking noise on the freeway...and was even louder as I pulled into my house. Havent driven it since, I've taken the cover off to investigate and im assuming there called the (rockers?..in between the springs) 2 of which dont slide side to side but the other 2 are able to slide with its given space. Should I empty the oil and do a flush and take a look at the oil pan as well?

The rockers will have different tolerances at the same time given where the camshaft is positioned.

that sucks d16y8's are know for spining rod bearings and have shitty oil pumps foo shoo id drain oil . check for metal . but you can always do a compression check do identify what cyc it is maby that cud help it cud be a bent valve idk i bought my 99 itr because the 18yold kid said the valves were bent but it was a lose lifter after tightning it was fine .

Drop the oil pan. you will have a surprise waiting in their. all you need is a extension and Ratchet with a 10mm socket.

i spun a rod in my d16y8. sounded just like what your talking about. then i sold the whole swap to get it off my hands for $350, the guy fixed it and put all new bearings in and a weak or so later spun 2 of them. So i know the y8's deff. have a tendancy to spend a bearing. check into.
