I was just looking for some opinions on what the problem may be. I have a 94 civic ex and a few weeks ago I blew the main relay plus the distributor was bad. So. I purchased a used distributor, looks good and had low miles on it, and got a new relay plus put in some new plugs. They are NGK 1095s. They are one range colder then stock. OK now for the problem. I put the car in first and hit the gas and the car slugs. It feels bogged down till the rpms rise up then it takes off. Then when I shift to secound it does the same thing. Real sluggish then back to normal. Should I go back to stock plugs? Could I be misfiring? Any help is very much appriciated.

 

Could be a vaccum leak. Try stock plugs and see if that makes a difference, but im thinking vaccum leak.

 

Where could the vacuum leak be? Throttle body? Where else? Thanks

 

Look over the IM and see if theres any hose's lose or coming lose. Atleast thats my guess because thats what happened to me.

Could also be your spark plugs, what are they gapped to?

 

I gapped them today to .035.

 

What motor? and i would try .040-.044 (not saying thats right or wrong but thats what i use and i dont have a problem).

 

Its a D16Z6. Its my Honda learning engine. Gotta start somewhere right? Newbie question but, what does a bigger gap do vs a smaller gap? Thanks

 

My car has same problem. I think my car might have vacuum leak. But I don't know how to check that. Could you guys help me out.

Did you get the timing after you put on the new dist.? it sounds like it could be timing especailly if you changed the dizzy

 

So just adjust the timing belt normaly? And check for vacuum leaks. Anything else I could try? Thanks for all the help.

adjust the timing you'll be fine from there

 

id also say its the timing.. a few friends have had the same problem.. maybe when your distributor was bad it caused the timing belt to jump a tooth... check that out.. hope that helps..

 

im thinking the dizzy also since you did change it. Timing light is going to be your friend here

 

I would check the timing.

 

you can spray starting fluid around your hoses to check for a vac. leak. Don't go crazy on the spray and it'll be safe. If the car idle never moves during this, then it's a good sign of no vac leaks.
