Im stuck in a cross road between a good mechanic and my boy. I have a new turbo thats never been used. I took it to a guy today to get a install quote and he said its a bad turbo because it has a VERY LITTLE side to side shaft play but it doesnt have any back and forth play.My boy that has been turboed for a while said some new turbo have play and some dont and a little side to side is fine. So my question to you guys/gals is who turbo had a little play when it was new.

 

I've got an HX35 that I have no idea how many miles and it had a pretty good amount of side to side play. Works good though.

 

turbos are supposed to have very minor side to side shaft play and NO front to back shaft play.

 

When it is new put some oil in it there should be no play after that after you run it there will be some up and down play. if you get in and out play like alot the turbo is getting beat on. I have used turbo like this for while i usually wait until its start to spit a lil oil. just my opinion. good luck.
