Heat Shields
My heat sheilds are rattling against my exhaust, it is very annoying. Would you advise removing them or not?? Would it harm anything? I keep taking it back and forth to the shop that installed my exhaust to get it adjusted, but it's still there. He gave me the option of taking the heat shields off, so thats why I am posting..
I have most of my heat shields off. I had that rattle at 3500 RPM that everyone talks about and I removed my cat heat shields first. This had no effect on the rattle, so I took the heat sheilds off of the header itself. This seems to have done the trick. Give it a try. Be aware though that If you take off your header sheilds, the temp under the hood will rise though.
My header heat shields are already off, I have a DC header. So taking the heat shields off should not harm anything, huh? I am prolly gonna take the one's around the piping off first then cat, etc.. My main concern was the one around the gas tank area. Did you remove that one as well?
I have not removed that one. I can't imagine that it's a really big deal. Do not take only my opinion on this though. Wait until someone else has put in their $.02 before you do it.
I removed all the heat shields under the car after installing my Comptech exhaust beacuse of rattling. I have them off for almost 1 yr. now without any problems. I go under the car about once a month to check if anything is getting damages or melting because of the heat and no problems yet.
