update on the rattle
i read that to get rid of the 3k-4k rpm rattle, you remove the heatshields. so far i've taken off the two on the cat and the one facing you on the header. it still makes the sound however. i noticed there is another headshield behind the header and there is some that runs along the rest of the exhaust. did i just miss the heatshield that usually causes the problem?
If you have a 94 or 95gsr, it's the HEADER. The be exact, if you have a stock header, the rattling is coming from the bottom part of the header (a-pipe) area. I had the same problem on my 94gsr, rattling around 3k-4k rpm. Took off all the head shield on the cat and the two on the exhaust manifold (header) and it still rattled.
I fixed it by buying a header off a 96gsr.
Many people have had this rattling problem. It seem as if though there was a design defect in the 94-95 stock exhaust manifold.

damn, so it is the header then... i was hoping for the easy and cheap route of it... oh well, guess gives me excuse to get the jdm itr header and rest of exhaust
Before you buy anything do this first. Jack your car up. Get someone to go rev your engine up to the rpm where the rattle is the loudest. Grab a broomstick and start pushing on the heatshields until you stop the rattle. That heatshield is your problem. Just remember to not get under your car while running.

I had this problem also. I remove every heat shield on my car except for one. It's part #6 in this diagram. You can't remove it unless you take off the entire exhaust manifold. So just get an aftermarket header and be done with it.
Yeah, it could be a crack somewhere. I had the same notorious rattle and after checking all the heatshields I found nothing.
Then, I noticed that there was a crack where the pipe and resonator connect. I had it rewelded and *poof*, the rattle was no more.

I had the rattle once, took it into the dealership and they got rid of it for $40.
Said something about the b pipe rubbing against the chasis.
