Default Timing belt tension....

Guys, I rotated the crank until the white mark on the pulley was lined up with the mark on the timing cover and the piston in the #1 cylinder was at TDC. My cam timing appears to be on point. So I put everything back together and start the car. There is a noise coming from the side of the block near the timing belt. Could the timing belt be too tight? I noticed quite a difference in the way it accelerates too. I think the belt tension wasnt tight enough before but now it may be too tight?
