Default Loose shifter?

I got a loose shifter on my 91 hatch, I can move it around like mad when it's in neutral, and also when it's in gear but not as much. Anyone know how to fix this?

make sure the bolt between the shifter and where it conncts to the linkage if that doesn't work make sure the roll pin is'nt working its way out

The way u're talk i think the roll pin is working its way out. I change my tranny once any when i put it back i used a bolt insted of the pin and it had all kinds of play in the shifter fixed it by putting a bigger bolt in its place.

so when you put a bolt in the pin's place it helped the play? Hmm, didn't think about that one, I thought it was the knuckle joint, but eh, those are pretty beefy

i've got poly bushings on the shifter already and hasport rod

Crawl under the car and look cause the gator pin, knuckle and bushings can all cause this problem.

I have the same problem and I always thought it was my bushings. How can the roll pin cause all this? The reason I'm asking is because I already have the tranny out and the linkage is still attached to the tranny because I can't get the damn pin out. First how the hell do I get it out? I've been hitting the damn thing but it doesn't want to come out. And how can this be the cause for a loose shifter when the damn thing doesn't even want to come out?

they call it a bitch pin for a reason...you should get a punch and a BFH that should work. You are supposed to get a new one after you get it out.

my loose shifter is from the bushing being chewed up, but i cant get to it because the linkage bolt is all rusted to hell. i may have to torch it off, which would stink.

My shifters similar...

From 1st 3rd 5th, i can move the shifter to make it look like its in any of those gears. same from 2nd 4th R...I've noticed recently my gears seem to grind more when shifting...might just be my dumb *** though.

I looked underneath my car, it looks like the bushings have been totally worn. Can you buy these somewhere? Or should I just try and come up with some home made remedy?

I had the same issue...bushings on either side of the bolt at the bottom of the shifter were gone and the bolt had to be torched/cut off.
I put in a Skunk2 Double Bend S.S. along with Energy Suspension Bushings and there is no doubt what gear your puttin' er' now. Much more precise and positive, yet effortless shifting going on! Love it!

more than likely bushings, but something may have worked itself loose.

I used a air chisel with a punch attachment on it, tapped it right out when i was doing my swap, didnt think about going to buy new one and so when i tapped it out it split the seam a bit and wouldnt' go back in so i smashed it back together in vise and now i have same loose pattern... its coming back out to go in another car now so i'll put a new pin in this time lol
