its not illegal to replace it once it goes off......but why would u not want ur airbags????.....if ur worried about them going off unneccesarily, then just pull the SRS fuse(s)
i think its retarded that u cant remove ur airbags.....thats such a bunch of bs....what u wanna do to compromise your own saftey is up to you, and the government should have no business in it....sorry for the poilitcal ranting

It is illegal and i think it is not very smart because it takes away a measure of safety for any of your passengers and it is not "your" choice to take that from them as 190 said. It is the same as the gov telling you not to. I still think that you should just replace both and not worry about not having them there.
If you took out your passanger air bag, then got into an accident and the passenger died, couldnt you be charged with man slaughter or something like that for removing the air bag?

By a good attorney, I am sure you could be charged. It may be illegal and a bad idea, but it is not like a cop would ever know or anything. Do you really think a cop is going to pull you over and say hey, do you have an airbag under that cover?

I got in an accident about a month and a half ago. I ended up going head on into a ditch and my airbag never went off. The whole under side of my front end was f'd up too. The insurance company ended up totaling my car.
Good thing it wasn't my fault!
So don't worry about your airbag going off unnessisaily.

You can get a switch to shut off the pasenger side airbag, though I've been having trouble finding out exactly how much it costs. You also need permission from NHTSA to get the switch, but it looks pretty simple to get permission (just a form, check a box).
But the cost... the furthest I got was that it would cost roughly $100 for labor to have the work done, but nobody could tell me the price of the kit itself.

well the air bags have already been blown out...i bought a new driver side one...and the passenger side i was just gonna get a cover ..i work all summer and no on reallie rides over there..so what would it hurt
why would it be illegal? My friend's truck has a feature where u can turn off the airbags. Isn't that just the same as removing the airbag? If you make removing your airbag illegal then I guess turning off your airbag is illegal also
Well i guess ill be ok then...Aint gonna stress over it...Another quick one....Is it true that when ur airbags go off you have to replace ur seatbelts or the seatbelt tensions?..cause i dun have a freakin clue
