Oxygen Sensor and SRS troubles
Hello,
About 2 months ago my engine Malfuction light came on. It was on for over a month after trying to reset the problem.
I took it in to Honda and they quoted me over £300 and said that it was the oxygen sensor.
From this i took the car away, located the oxygen sensor, bought one online and fitted it.
The light is still on. I have reset the battery and it goes off for a minute when driving and then stright back on like it use to.
I was trying to locate the ECU and pulled out a plug i thought was, instead it was the back seat SRS airbag leads. 2 in to a socket. Now the SRS light is on and wont go off.
Please help.
Thank you.
Sam

Hi,
Well i dont know the cell becuase i cannot locate how to test this.
I took it in to honda and they told me it was the oxygen sensor.
Regards.

I have just got the codes and i am getting the following codes:
41 - Primary Oxygen Sensor - Heater circuit malfunction on D16Z6, D16Z7 and B16A2 engines 41 Linear Air Flow (LAF Sensor) heater malfunction on D15Z1 engine
48 - Linear Air Flow (LAF Sensor) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor
I have replaced the oxygen sensor but i guess i have a problem with the LAF sensor now. How can i solve this? And where is the LAF sensor?
Attached is a pic of my car, after a bit of rally corss

SRS problem sorted.
Put the 2 pins in to the yellow connector. It wasnt working before as i was putting it in the wrong connector. I was using the blue under the passenger size which is for the fault detecting.
Also just getting error code 41 now.
Still have the o2 sensor problem? Why do you think this is as i have replaced it?

Code 41 is for the preheater (built into the O2 sensor), or the circuit that powers it.
Measure the resistance of the heater, it should be 10 to 40 ohms. (I don't know which 2 wires from the sensor.) The heater isn't supposed to have any continuity to ground, either wire.
Next check the circuit that powers the heater. Check a wiring drawing for your car, but it's probably like this... Heater gets +12v from the main relay always. The ECU has the ground side of that circuit, to turn the heater on/off.

Thank you very much for your help.
Would it matter if when the new oxygen sensor was fitted the wires are much longer than the previous ones???

It shouldn't matter for the preheater wires. I wasn't really sure about the signal wires, but if that mattered, you'd throw code 1 for the O2 sensor signal.
So what do you think is the best thing to do?
The car is much better since i put new break pads on, sorted the steering and since the new oxygen sensor went on.
Do you think there could be another sensor???
Or maybe a motor relay??

You can check the resistance of the heater like I said, but since it's a new sensor that's probably not bad.
So that leaves troubleshooting the circuit that powers the heater. Got a multi-meter?

The heating element is built into the sensor. It's connected by 2 of the 4 wires coming off the sensor. I think the 2 black ones?? When the sensor is cold, the oxygen-sensing element itself will look like an open circuit. So it's safe to check any combination of sensor wires, looking for 10 to 40 ohms.
Your UK Accord isn't the same car as our USA Accord, so I don't really know if the wiring details might be different?? But it seems all Hondas traditionally power that heater from the main relay, with the ECU being in the ground side of that circuit. Someone has said that the ECU maintains the heater ON all the time, so I guess the only reason the ECU is in that circuit is to verify it's working...
So first, turn on the car & verify battery voltage across those 2 wires. If not, chase those wires thru the car & look for breaks (or a blown fuse).
