Default The Short Shifter Poll + Controversary

Just curious on the general short shifter topic (have seen pro's and con's), i know i got one 10 months ago, and my synchros are starting to feel bad. Not sure if this has to do with the wayi drive? Anyhow, here's the poll.

My Input, how are your synchros getting/feeling bad? are they grinding? most likely its driver. Short shift wont affect it.

it's an input- but i want to see everyone's opinion whether or not they decide to post (by simply filling the poll).

yes the gears are grinding slightly- not shifting smoothly.

I don't have one but I wouldn't mind getting the C's shifter. It seems that most people would say that the C's is the best one but is $$$

Disregarding the 99-00 Si's synchro issues, I've had 2 cars with a total of 100k+ miles logged with short shifters in use. I've ye to have a synchro problem.

A theory I've read is that you can shift so much faster/easier, that it is easier to hurt synchros by not havign the clutch in all the way, missing shifts, etc... when you blast through the gears. I don't know if this holds water though...

Eh, I've used Neuspeed shifters and I like 'em a lot. there are nicer units out there, though.

It is not the shifter, and, personally, i dont think it is the driver either. I have seen many ITR tranny's all torn up. One friend of mine is woring on replacing his 3rd(2000), another is trying to warranty his 3rd or 4th (98). I'll try to get them to input something.

ive missed shifts with the short shifter
but only because i was anxious to get off the clutch pedal, i usually never miss a shift. Short shifter or long shifter, my car had its stock shifter for about 15k, its been running a short shifter since then, i am now at 95k

c's seems to be the best because of its design, it raises the pivot ball poitn instead of lowering it I believe was the case, in any.

The c's short shifter under its ball joint shifts like a stock shifter, while the throws are shortened... and this is all due to its attack angle...

normal american short shifters have a lower attack angle on the transmission and that seems to be why they recommend the c's since its rare to misshift at all with it..

but 150 bucks is still kinda too rich for me even though i paid 90 for this b&m I should of went nuespeed because i hate reaching for this b&m (strait stick)

With a shorter shift throw, aren't you shifting faster at the trany due to the added mechanical advantage? I thought that would make the syncros work harder than they should. Any thoughts???

I drive everywhere out here in so cal man, I drive to la all the time, i work in irvine, live in fontana by the ontario mills, worked in san bernardino for two years. Everywhere I worked it was a fourty minute drive back and forth, I put at least 140 miles on my car a day.

funny thing is I only run the car on 87 too.. HEHE!!! take that high compression, not a knock or ping once. I dont know what other si drivers are talking about. But next question.

where can i get a c's for 150... I cant tell you or I would have to kill you... besides the regular c's shifter is about 200 bucks, but like I said I have overseas peeps who can hook it up for 150...

the c's driving position shift is the hardcore ****** transformer shifter which costs 300 bucks and there is no budging on that price for me being rarely anyone ****** buys the godamn things...

And as far as my silvia project's (yes I am buying two) go. I gotta put that on hold now because I have a nice unemployment scare here at work, which is gonna **** a lot of **** up now... especially my deal with marvin on his ssr's ****!!!

Haha, I hope so! Cause otherwise you would have made 100 dollars off of me!

Realistically, the shifter retails for 270 USD in Japan, so Shane's price of 260 to me was pretty good. Although he left the price tag on there and I know how much he paid for it.

Anyhow, I'd say that if you are going to get a short shifter get the neuspeed or C's. The more I use my C's the more I appreciate how smooth of a short shifter it is.
