Gen5 Clutch Problem: Help
I have a 96 Accord LX 5-spd with 171,000 miles on an original clutch and I have been having an engagement problem with my clutch recently. I hadnt driven my car in 4 or 5 days, and when I went to pull out of my driveway, the stick wouldnt come out of reverse (thats what i keep it in when parked). The clutch also had no resistance until it was almost at the floor. After fussing a little, I finally got the car into neutral. The clutch remained the same though. Normally, the clutch engages at 4/5 the way up but now it engaged at 1/10 the way up. The rest of the way it would have almost no resistance and would just hang there. My problems differed from another one that I found searching in that as I drove around, the problem progressively got better until after about 10-15 minutes of driving, it was back to normal. This happens every time I get into my car after it has sat overnight but to a lesser extent(clutch engages at 2/5 the way maybe). Does anybody have any advice for me? Anything is appreciated. Thanks
Check your hydro clutch line fluid. Your clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder might be leaking. You should first see if you can fix the problem by bleeding the clutch line. The bleeder valve is on the slave cylinder. Bleed your clutch line and usually, after you do this, it will get back to normal. Refill the clutch reservoir back to the top with brake fluid. If the fluid drops when you check it later, or if the pedal gets soft again, then you have a leak.

This sounds like the problem. I had the same problem in my 92: very low engagement point, then couldn't shift in or out of gears, no resistance on pedal. Turns out the hydraulic system is leaking somewhere. I just dumped brake fluid into the reservoir and will address the real problem when I have time.

Alright, thanks alot everyone. I'll definately bleed the clutch line then add some more brake fluid if necessary. The wierdest thing about this problem is that the harder i drive it, the more "back to normal" it gets. If i red-line all the gears up to forth, its almost back to working the way it should. If i had to do that everytime i was going to go for a drive though I'd have more problems then a messed up clutch.
