Definitive Del Sol VTEC A/C bracket removal thread
CAN this bracket be removed? I have heard many conflicting opinions on this subject but no definite answers since it is part of one of the mounts. I need room for my downpipe on my turbo and this bracket is in the way. The del sol I believe has 5mounts, so I dont think pulling this bracket is a bad idea. Can anyone give me a definitive answers? Pics as proof would be nice too
i wouldnt take it out. there is a reason that there are 5 mounts on there. if you take out 1 it might not make a difference right away but it will hurt something in the longrun
the lower mount is there to help with torque to keep the motor from moving under load. not a good idea to remove try grinding the bracket to get the clearence you need.
those two front torque mounts are practically ******* useless. i come across very few that aren't rotted out and just chilling there to begin with.
smart answer
the keyword is "torgue" mount. i have seen some serious body damage because of these not being installed. even if they are broken due to age, they still prevent the engine from rocking between shifts.

I drove around with out EITHER of the two lowre mounts for 6 months, it was alright.... I would remove the AC mount, and then get that torque damper that mounts on that side of the engine, that should be more than enough.

yeah probably solid billet mounts. get the 3 from hasport, and you can remove the lower 2. otherwise, use a different downpipe. maybe hack at the bracket a little.
I removed mine on my ej and my motor wobbled like crazy. Not sure if the sol is the same, but if it is, definitely leave it in.
They are the old school hasport ones. Doesnt mean much though, because the problem seems to be breaking off the mount bolted to motor, which doesn't get replaced.
The bracket alone is in the way? Try to modify your downpipe man cause they mount is key. Your gonna have shitty 60ft if your ******* motor is rocking when you launch especially with turbo.
What if u cut the AC bracket in half, top to bottom way...? That way you can free up some space, but it will still be bolted to the block with two bolts then go over to the motor mount, and be in one solid piece.
....Althought that would be destroying the NOTORIOUS del sol vtec AC bracket y0!

there is no way in hell that thoes little rubber inserts stop the motor/tranny from moving AT ALL. im not saying its a good idea to take them out either, im just saying they arent stopping or even helping to hold your motor/tranny from moving. even though honda didnt use them in 88-91's im sure they put them in for a reason. when you say cut the AC bracket in half, top to bottom way do you mean only have it so 2 of the 4 bolts are holding it on? id really recomend relocating your downpipe so you dont have to deal with any of these mount problems.
When you remove those mounts you WILL feel a difference when shifting at high RPMS. You can feel the motor shift more through the shifter. THEY do have a purpose and I personally would not take them out unless runnin Full poly mounts on the rest or billet if you have the money.
