Cat or no cat? That is the question.
Hey Guy's, I'm going to be installing my T1R exhaust soon. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should install the test pipe? Will taking out the cat effect the car in any way other than being quite louder. The car is my daily driver in the summer so any side effects concerning drivability may influence my decision.

Well if the cop and judge don't like you IE you ere street racing you can serve 6 mos in jail and pay a 5k fine and the guy who did the work will pay up to 25k for 2 hp and a voided warranty woo hoo !
if you live in a state with emissions and have to get the car smogged and cats have to be on, just leave the stock cat in there. The MIL will not affect your fuel or ignition maps but will just be a yellow light in your cluster that you'll get used to.
I don't understand why the CEL light would light up if you installed a test pipe with a bung for the 02 sensor.
Furthermore - I know the F20 is no B series or D series, but when I put in a test pipe on my D16Z6 (Single Cam Vtec) the *** dyno noticed a difference. My friend also noticed a good gain on his B16A2 by using a test pipe.
I know the S2000 is a different creature, but why wouldn't the gains be there just because you take out the catalitic converter and leave everything hooked up?

The volumetric efficiency of the stock S2000 cat is quite impressive. The installation of a test pipe will only show small gains.
Removal of the cat will make the CEL come on, make the car smell nasty, and kill the enviroment.
Just saying what was already said with the

Why does the CEL light come on?? Is that because people didn't install the O2 sensor or because is exhaust is flowing too fast?
No need for sarcasm.

The o2 sensor is reading that the cat isnt scrubbing the exhaust gasses, so it throws the CEL.
Were just ****** around...

If both sensors have the same reading (with the test pipe on) the ECU triggers a OBD2 code (#67 on my car).

People are so quick to say that running w/o a cat is "bad for the environment" when the truth is there are lots (and I mean lots) of vehicles that pollute much worse than a clean burning honda engine w/ no cat. My civic (sold now
) w/ a b18b and JR supercharger w/ larger injectors blah blah w/ no cat passed emissions w/o even coming close to breaking a sweat.
Truth is you may only get minimal gains and of course pollute more w/o a cat than w/, but you aren't the environment devil many may make it sound.

Thank you - now that makes sense as to why I didn't get a CEL with my OBD1 setup, but why it doesn't really make sense do it with any OBD2 auto.

This is true - as I was too lazy to put the Cat back on my Civic the first time I had to run it through emissions (my Test pipe looked like a high flow cat, but on the inside it was just resonated 2 1/4" pipe with flanges). I pass CO2 and Hydrocarbons with FLYING COLORS! I failed the NO emissions however, and had to install the CAT and have it retested.
Proof positive, that running without a CAT (at least with a D16Z6) isn't really all that bad.
