Exhaust manifold leak on 97 accord....how should i fix
i have just bought a 97 accord 4 cylinder. I have a leak from the manifold and was wondering if it is the gasket or the manifold. I can not see any cracks, but when i reach behind the manifold by the alternator i can feel air blowing out. So is this more than likely the manifold or just the gasket, and then should i buy a OEM replacment or what kind of cheap header should i get. I have no intention of modding this car i just dont want this to happen again.. Car has 120k Thanks
u could always take it all off, check the gasket.....if thats bad, cap off the ends of the header and pressure test it.............look for a used one on here or on EBAY....for the price honda will charge, u could get a good stainless steel aftermarket header
Will this work with my car its a special edition 97 accord, and will this bolt up to my factory exhaust and use the o2 sensors....thanks

Yes it will fit.. all exhaust manifolds are interchangeable between 94-97 accords. However, you may have to extend the o2 sensor wires. If the SE accord has the f22b1 engine you'll be fine, otherwise you'll have to extend the wires.
But thats not a problem.. DC sports sells an extension, or you could just extend the wires yourself.

no, the headers are not interchangeable........uve got an f22b2 motor, so ull need a header either from a 97SE or a 94-97 DX/LX........
EDIT: i wouldnt trust that header.......

My main goal is to fix the leak and still sound stock, i do not want any type of racing exhaust sound... if i use the header off ebay will it sound very different?? and also do you know of any other issues or problems.. I realize it is cheap compared to others, but i dont care about performance, only that it does not leak and it fits, so does anyone else have any advice, i really appreciate everyones imput.
The only difference between the EX and LX/DX/SE headers is the placement of the o2 sensor. If you are willing to extend the 4 wires of the o2 sensor (not that difficult at all), it will fit.
As for sound, I didn't notice that much of a difference in sound when I installed my DC Sports ceramic header. It's definitely nothing as noticeable as an intake or exhaust.

EX manifolds are 4-2-1
LX manifolds are 4-1
SE ?? depending on (b2 LX) or (b1 EX)
yes dc sports does sell a extension but theyll make you order it from one of their auth. dealers... which will want 35$ shipped. for 5$ you can easily extend solder yourself a exact replica if you find the right o2 connectors.. make sure to use the same gauge wiring! i forgot the gauge #

I strongly feel that it is not the exhaust manifold that is leaking (cracking, huh?). I doubt it. try tighten the manifold bolts to the cylinder head and bolts between the downpipe and manifold (be carefull not to strip them - you might want to spray wrench liquid before trying to tighten them up.) if tightening the bolts do not resolve this problem, you may need to replace gasket - either the gasket between maniold and downpipe or gasket between cylinder head and manifold. you might want to doublecheck and see if O2 sensor is tightened and secured.
carefully trace the leak. it could be the fan belts that are somewhat 'blowing' the air.
I have worked with several cars and i rarely see cracked exhaust manifold - as its thick and solid, but anything can happen like it was dropped at one point, you know. I am just trying to save you money on a new exhaust manifold.
