Default Turbo F22B1

Hey everyone -

I'm kinda new to Hondas (definetly not new to cars, just Hondas ), and I'm considering getting a 95 Accord with a F22B1 VTEC SOHC motor. My goal is to make it a 12 second daily driver, and I'd like to build the F22 instead of going with the H22 swap. I'm planning on building up the internals (forged pistons, ARP head studs, head gasket, etc), any suggestions on this or cam suggestion would be appreciated.

Now I'm not planning on buying a kit for it, I want to make my own, and before the flaming starts, I am capable of fabrication and welding, and I'm not scared of it. I would like to use a junkyard turbo, and was wondering if the Garrett TO3 from the T-Bird Turbo Coupes (.63 A/R) would be big enough. I'm thinking I'm gonna need about 8-10 lbs of boost to hit my goal of 12's.

Let me know what you think...

ur gonna need some serious weight reduction to run 12s on 8-10 psi......most/alot of people go w/ a t3/t4 hybrid.....u might wanna consider a JDM H22 LSD trannie, to help keep you in the powerband, and to keep the wheels gripping...no matter what, the AT will NOT be able to take that much power...

12 sec daily accord is a pretty adventagious....best of luck

Yeah, with 6 pounds of boost, you'll be running the same times as you would with an H22 (Mid to high 14's), so dont expect to be running 12's with just a few more pounds of boost.

Even with weight reduction, the most you'll be able to get out of the accord is probably around 300 pounds (and still be streetable).

Turbo H22 = 12's.

Well, I was trying to get by without swapping motors, but maybe that's what I'll have to do. I saw some people talking about the JDM H22's being around $2800, anyone have any ideas what they go for for the USDM versions? I might call around to some jy's around the area too, since I'm gonna go inside of it anyway, it's not like I need a pristine low mileage unit.

As far as weight reduction goes, I'd rather not do anything to drastic. I'd like to keep the full interior, maybe a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood, and some LW wheels... Or maybe I should just forget it and get a hatchback like everyone else... lol Just trying to be a little different I guess...

if you plan on rebuilding the internals, why limit yourself to 8-10psi of boost when you could run double that and achieve your goals?

i wouldn't ever buy a turbo from a junkyard...just because the shape determines age, oil changes, type of oil, etc etc...and all these factors are unknown from a junkyard turbo...

as far as boost, if you are going to build the motor, why only push 8-10 lbs of boost...you could go up to 20ish with mildly strong parts and easily see 12 second 1/4 miles...

need to sleeve and lower compression for that much boost.

you should be cool running 10psi with stock internal with a proper management, very low restrictive turbo/turbo exhaust system(NO CAT please) and block posting(anyone still remember what it is? )

Well, if I did get one from a junkyard, I would rebuild it. Rebuild kits for turbos are fairly cheap since there's really nothing more than bearings and seals as long as the shaft isn't scored.

As far as pushing more boost, well, that'd be awesome, I just wasn't sure how much I could get by with on pump gas. Sleeving wouldn't be a problem for me (I run a machine shop), so do you guys think I can build up the F22 to take it? I'd really rather do that if it'll get me what I want instead of hassling with the engine swap/wiring issues. Plus if I don't have to spend a bunch of money on buying a new motor, that leaves me more to play with on the F22.

Oh and BTW, that intake is so freakin awesome:
