Default how does this look?

i have a 90 accord ex. while i drive in the high way i feel that i have to force the car to go straight. while i go straight my steering wheel stays kind off on a side. and i have a little slack on my steering wheel.
now i took my car to the mechanic and he told me that the lower bolt joint is gone. he put a crow bar between the thing and he moved the lower bolt joint up and down.
now does this bolt joint look ok. does it suppose to move up and down.

the reason i ask is that i don't trus mechanics a lot. maybe its me but i never trusted them. since i have no experience with lower bolt joints i am hoping u guys can give me some help
thanks

if the ball joint can be moved up/down in its socket it is time to replace it... but not the likely cause of your complaint. i suspect an alignment /tire problem

uh oh, somebody is going to get banned.

Seriously though, from what you described in your first post, it sounds like you should check out the tie rod ends (inner and outer) on both sides.

Now that you mentioned a squeaking, could be your power steering rack also.

well, if your hearing a sqeak...then it sounds like you have a bushing that needs to be replaced...check your strut rod ends...there should be two caps with washers and bushings (there should be on on each side of your front end, you can see it when you lay on the floor and look behind the bumper)

The ball joint might need to be replaced but, like others said, it would not act like the symptoms you describe.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by alb_accord &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">while i drive in the high way i feel that i have to force the car to go straight. while i go straight my steering wheel stays kind off on a side. and i have a little slack on my steering wheel.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Force the car to go straight: That could be as simple as low tire air pressure on one side as well as loose tie rods.

streering wheel not straight: Usually when you do an alignment, you will center the steering wheel so that it looks good. So it could be that it was not centered last time. But it can also be loose tie rods and such.

Slack in the steering wheel: What do you mean by slack. If you mean that it does not respon right away when you turn (half an inch play is normal) the stearing wheel then it would indicate rack problems, loose tie rods and such.

With this said, most probably loose tie rods. Check for play.

Confront your mechanic about this and see what he says.

thanks guys u been more than helpfull. i get the squecking noise when i turn the steering wheel and when i go on bumps. now the only thing that i see that moves around is the the thing on the axle near the wheel.(don't know what's it called.) anyways i will open the wheel up then change the bolt joints check the axle and if i fix everything then i will get an alligment.
by the way when i brake on stop signs my steering wheel kind of goes on the right side(on the side where i hear the noise and the side that has a fucked up bolt joint) it does this everytime i hit the brakes. oh well. this car already has got from me a lot of money. so i will keep puting money on this bitch.
thanks for all the reply.
lol i already have a domestic car but mmmmm i am better off with my honda.

this is exactly what my car sounded like and did with the brakes and it ended up being the strut rod ends, they needed bushings (i checked/replaced ALL bushings, replaced calipers, pads, everything but the bushings in the strut rod end). when i took it to winston, they said that you could do it yourself, but you would probably have to drop the tranny/engine (depending on which side it's on) to fully get to the rod. anyway, autozone should have those energy technique bushings for like $15

you can't tell if it's bad just by looking but it does look like it's seen better days. What year and how many miles? If the mechanic shoed you the movement and there was play betweer the lowest nut next to the tire, than it is bad and needs to be replaced. From the way everything looks under your car, it could use a serious look over. Replace the ball joint and any other wasted suspension parts and get your alignment checked.
