Default Swap Completed...PROBLEMS!!! (fan and idle)

Sup fellas, I just completed my swap in my 94 Integra LS. My old motor spun a rod bearing and I purchased an OBD2 LS motor to drop in using all of the OBD1 components. I finished and it starts up perfect. It's just that now, none of the fans come on. When I turn on the A/C, no matter which speed, the fan doesn't come on. Is there any way to check if the fan is still working?

Also, now my idle is really weird. When the car is not warmed up, the idle jumps up and down around 1500 and 2000 and keeps on going up and down until the motor warms up. Ocassionally, it would jump when it warms up too. After that, it idles perfectly at 750...any ideas?

Thanks a bunch guys

The fluctuating idle is most commonly associated with the IAC valve. It may just need cleaned, or possibly replaced. And FYI, the OBDI and OBDII IAC valves are different.

As far as the fan is concerned, you are talking about the blower fan right ? (inside the car?)

If that's the case, seems odd that that would quit after a swap, because it is not controlled by the ECU. There is a resistor mounted on the top of the blower motor (you have to take th glove box off to get to it) that goes bad. There is a relay under the hood for that, and I believe a fuse under the dash as well. Check those. Maybe you crossed a wire somewhere and blew a fuse ?

either your coolant temp switch is shot (possibly the one you got w/ the swap was bad, it's located on the thermostat housing) or maybe the fan relays are bad. You did remember to plug the fans back in when you did the swap, right?

is there a way to check for the relays? where is it located? also, is there a way to check the coolant temp switch? I'm sure I plugged it in when I finished the swap. I checked yesterday.

I'm not 100% sure about checking the temp switch...maybe if you let the motor run until it was at operating temp., then used a voltmeter on the switch to see if it changed.

I know there are a few grounds for that A/C compressor. Maybe make sure they are all attached.

I'm thinking what everyone else seems to think to, possibly the coolant temp. switch.

For the idle problem, remove the IACV and FITV and clean them out really well with brake cleaner or carb cleaner and see if the problem goes away.

With my recent swap the fans didn't work either. As it turns out, they needed to be plugged in.

Thats what my problem was. You take the Fast Idle Thermo Valve off, (3 10mm bolts and 2 8mm for the plate on the FITV) then take 2 flat head screwdrivers and tighten the white thing. If it's loose it will act as a vacuum leak, which will cause your surging idle.

Not too sure about your fans though sorry!
