HID Installation question
I bought a set of HID's from a private seller, out of a lexus IS300, does anyone know how hard it is going to be to fit them in the socket and what modifications i need to do? Also if anyone if familiar with HID bulbs specifically, then maybe you can answer my question. Since the bulbs are out of is300 and they are not projector housings they have tha little tiny strip that goes down the side of the bulb that is not there on projector housing type bulbs. how much will this effect the light output and beam pattern of the light out of the projector. If anyone knows the answer to this is would be very helpful.

bro... if you don't kno that's how all HIDs look.
beam is still pretty straight... and if it's a 9006 bulb, it should work. and if it's not a plug 'n' play kit, your **** outta luck, cause I myself woulda got a plug 'n' play... hope someone here can help you with the slice'n and dice'n... i've had my McColluchs plug 'n' play since 2002..

the bulb that you are refering to is called a D2R bulb. there are 2 type of bulbs D2R an D2S. D2R is for reflector style headlights like lexus and D2S is used for projector style headlights like BMW and AUDI. that strip that goes around the bulbs help reduce the amount of glare headlights produce. the bulb will not fit in there right. you are going to have to modify it somehow. the output of the light is not going to be the same as an IS300 if thats what your looking for. your headlights are going to be producing alot of glare. go to this website its very informational and the people on there are pretty cool too. HIDforum.com.
They will fit in with no problem. You can put it in the low or high beam.
All you have to do is take ur stock bulb out and once u do that look around the housing u will see 3 screws on the top and the sides.Once u got that out a little cover comes off then u put in the hid bulb in with the brown stick face down. then but back that little cover back on again and screws. then hook up the wire red+ and black - that it .

^^^ dude, that is totally the WRONG way to do it, talk about ghetto-rigging. Don't be posting mis-information like that.
You have to use a D2S bulb that is either rebased to 9006, or has a 9006 base molded on (neither of which produce the best results since it is still using the stock projector) or take the headlights apart and retrofit in OEM HID projectors (best way, 0wnz all other setups).

if u say that the fit perfectly with no problem how come more people dont just drop in D2R/D2S bulbs in their stock projectors that were made for halogen bulbs? because it doesnt fit with no problem you have to modify either the bulbs or the socket. like PatrickGSR94 was saying its alot better just to retro OEM projector into the stock headlight housing. its worth all your time and money to do this. the output of the light will be evenly spread and will have very little light above the cutoff. translate to better lighting with mininal glare, which doesnt blind oncoming traffic.
Thanks guys for the useful information, frankly i got more out of this thread then the one i posted on HIDForum.com.. I have decided to not put them in because i don;t have the money to get the D2S bulbs right now so iam just gonna sell the kit to someone who has the time and money to retro fit it to work correctly. thanks again!
like i said its not going to work they even said it at hidforum.com dont even bother putting them in...not worth it plus lots of glare. like i mention in the previous thread. just do a retro with OEM projector in your stock headlight housings.
Sine you already have them, you might as well throw those into the 9005 (high beam) socket and retrofit in some Audi projectors and bulbs for the low beams. Trust me, If you are some what mechanically inclined, you'll be able to do the retrofit.
