the tabs on the bulb itself determines how the bulb fits in the actual light housing..
Basically it should only fit in the housing one way

I'm not quite sure, but after reading a few HID threads, dont HID bulbs + stock housings = hella m@d headlight glare = blinding everyone passing you? Or am I thinking of HIDs in shitty projector lamps?

mine faces down...
but regardless if its an aftermarket kit or not that bulb should only fit in your housing one way so that it is seated and will not move when you hit bumps and potholes!!!!
if aimed appropriately you will not glare oncoming traffic, don't get me wrong its not as crisp as projectors, but it 100% more effective than halogens or even the ever so popular silverstars

of course they should fit only one way. thats not my question. im doing the conversion with the h4 plates so they just sit there.. but im asking is which way they face. can anyone say for sure its supposed to go a certain way or it dont matter

not sure i understand your question..
i'll try to answer anyway.. mine only fit in my housing in one direction so there can be no confusion in which way the pin faces (down in my case). if i were to guess they reflect the light from the top of the housing down, to reduce glare.
