Default Having Problem, anyone have some insight?

Our CRX has been having some hesitation issues. Once it gets to about 3500 rpms or so, it will cut off, and even with full throttle, it won't go anywhere, like it's not getting any spark at all. But if you let off the throttle a little (or wait for the rpms to drop down), it will start to buck kinda violently.. but it still won't exceed the 3500 rpms (or wherever it is). It's not a limp home mode thing, I've experienced that before..

We've looked at vaccuum lines, the TPS and map sensor, eliminated the O2, looked at cam and ignition timing, changed hondata maps (and chips, and units), and even tried the stock ecu..nothing seems to have an effect.

FYI: It's an LS/VTEC (b18b1/b16a1), OBD1 P28 with Hondata s200, lots of aftermarket stuff that probably wouldn't affect it (mostly fuel mods like pump/cell/lines/injectors)

I'm thinking about looking to the dizzy, because it seems like the only other place to look.. But I'm interested is what HT has to say about it. Hondata Datalogging is on the way soon, so hopefully that will shed some light.

EDIT: Sorry guys, I meant to put this in TECH.

Have you replaced the fuel filter yet?

an aftermarket fuel filter was installed at the same time as the rest of the fuel system, which was about a year ago. It's really only been to 4 or 5 autocrosses since the new fuel system.

but the filter is pretty small. I will definitely check the filter. Thanks for the idea.

In your hondata system. Create a new baseline fuel map. Check the differences in the fuel tables between the baseline and that of the exisitng condition (current fuel tables).

OK, I cleaned the fuel filter.. no change.

If recently had a bad ignitor on my Civic HB, and it gave different symptoms. If it were a bad ignitor, it would cut out at any RPM, and the tach would go crazy, right? At least that's what was happening in my HB.

We've messed around with the maps on the hondata, and we may try what you suggest. But we've run the stock ECU (without any hondata), and it still has the same problem. That leads me to believe it isn't a problem with the fuel maps, or anything in the hondata..

We'll put the datalogging on it today, and see if anything looks out of whack.
