Default Another LSD post, But an Important question....

Obviously a Type-R is not going to have the best parts available, because Honda is still a company, and has to make concessions on various type of items to balance price/quality/performance... As I understand it, Quaife makes the LSD's for Honda, and being that, it is a gear based LSD. I want to get the Type-R LSD, but I've read that it performs poorly above 240whp... Now since its made by Quaife, I wonder does that rule out the Quaife aftermarket LSD too? Is that typical of all Gear LSD's? What is the reason that the Type-R LSD can't handle that amount of WHP?

I have a FI'd Type-S, and the whp is already above 250... and its only gonna go up, so I don't want something thats gonna crap out on me...

Clutch based LSD's, I understand, are harder for daily driving... The noise factor, and normal usage is just not for the day-to-day driving, as well as its just not that fun to drive.... Is there a clutch based application that doesnt have those problems? is the clicking bearable? is that type of LSD that much harder to drive?

What are the recommendations for an LSD with 250 - 300 whp?

well i didnt know that quaife made the type-r LSD but i could assure you that the aftermarket unit could support 400+ hp. plus you get lifetime warranty. go quaife

I dont think that the OEM ITR LSD is made by quaife. The only OEM LSD made by quaife that I know of is on the SRT-4.

As far as one for you, I would go with quaife, for a couple of reasons. First off, if this is your daily driver, the quaife will be much more drivable then any clutch-type LSD. This is because they are more progressive in thier lock-up, as opposed to clutch-types which are fairly immediate. Noise is also a factor, although a subjective one, as clutch-types tend to be noisy. As far as Im concerned, the biggest pro to using a quafie, is that they are maintenence free. They drop right in and require no special fluid or adjustments. Clutch-types can be tough to set up properly, and each time you make adjustments, the whole unit must come out, which can get really expensive if your not doing it yourself. Clutch-types also need to be rebuilt periodically.

Hope this helps

honestly, no one could really tell you unless they have blew an OEM LSD with over that power. this is just the average assumed power it could take.
for you turbo guys, i wouldnt even think twice about the quaife due to the burst od stress boost can deliver.
all motor guys, the type-r would be more suitable.

The Quaife is good but I hear the Cusco is better. More expensive too. If $1100 is too expensive go with the Quaife for $900. Either way you're getting a great LSD.

according to EDO he cracked his OEM ITR LSD with 250 hp to the wheel on the rsx. he is the one and only case as most ppl with less than HP number in their car.
