Jdm b18b Question
I just bought a jdm b18b from attarco if you guys heard about it.. I pulled the spark plugs and it was black.. I know it's running rich.. but could it mean the engine is bad or something? What do you guys think I should do.. exchange it? Plus it's from an automatic.. I don't know for sure if it was driven hard a lot or not. What would u guys do?
I personally think you should take it back, or exchange it. You might want to throw a new set of plugs in it, and check the compression in it while everything is apart. The old plugs might of been cold, or possibly hot plugs. If your serious enogh about the motor, i would take it back because the rings might be going bad, and belive me, that is NOT a cheap fix.
well....was the plug oilly or just black, because running rich causes the plugs to turn black. my car was runnin rich when the and i had just put new plugs in and they turned black in like 2 mins of the car running.....just try new plugs before you take the motor back
yeah i'm reusing my ngk blue plugs and bosch platinums that have like 6k miles. As for the oil it was dark brown, could mean anything though.. They said they do leakdown test before selling the motors? But aren't leakdown test done in the car with the car warm i'm guessing?

damn that's money i don't have right now.... I just spoke with the someone from Attarco... He said the reason y they are black is becuz they use carb cleaner, which results in black spark plugs. The spark plugs are not oil, they are dry. So it's been sitting there for a while i'm guessing. Anyways, the guy said i can exchange it if i wanted to, and they would pick up the engine for free, so I don't have to load it in my little integra. Pretty good service if u guys ever want to get a engine there.
i haven't put it in yet.... but they guy was kool about the situation... He said if i don't like the motor, I could exchange. They do a leakdown test before selling the motor as well.
