bad ignitor?
hey, ive been trying to find out why i lost spark and i think it is my ignitor (the thing with the spring in it) i always get the coil and the ignitor mixed up. but i was following my chilton, yes i know i should have bought a helms, but oh well anways i was checking the ohm between the + and the - and i was getting a little under .8 which it said was correct. then i tested between the negative screw and the spring and i got 0. this would mean bad ignitor correct? thanks. if that is so, should i go ahead and just replace the coil also or should i just wait and see if the coil turns out to be bad. say if i didn't replace the coil could it damage the ignitor or visa versa. thanks for anyone who can help.
Actually, what you are testing is the ignition coil. If your Ohmmeter is showing 0 Ohms on the secondary side of the coil, then it is not good. However, I would strongly suggest replacing both the coil and the ignitor together. Generally, if one fails, the other is not too far behind.
Hope this helps

cool. i just found it very weird because as i was trying to get the car started i had both fuel and spark, but i was having a fuel leaking problem. then when i finally got the fuel leaking problem solved for some reason my ignition coil just crapped out on me.
also, just for future reference let me see if i can get this right. i was testing the ignition coil, so is the little box where the wires hook up at the bottom of the distributor the ignitor? or am i just confusing myself?

To make it clear for you...ignitor get 4 connectors, the size is about a gameboy cartride; on the other hands, ignition coils is larger, thicker, with only two screw type connectors that marked "+""-", it also have a spring popin' on it. Hope this help clear thing up.
