Tranny wont go in gear when on
On my 1997 civic ex a friend of mine and i swapped in a d16y8 (oem replacement). We drove it a little bit but it had a CEL, so we finally fixed that today (misfiring, timing fixed it) problem is when we started it up and tried to put it into 1st it absolutely would not go, it wont go into any gears in fact. If we try to start it up in gear, it lurches (even with the clutch down) and then stalls. The clutch has feel, and was bled, and we can see the shift fork moving. However, there is some kind of problem with the clutch still. The only way we culd drive it was to start it in 1st with the clutch pedal down and we gave it a little more gas because it lurched. When we put pulled it out of gear, we couldnt get it back.
We dont know what the problem is, what should we try/do to fix this?

Maybe be a couple of things. Did you install the clutch in the new engine? Because when I installed my clutch I put the clutch plate on backwards and it wouldnt go into gear, And We had to drop the tranny again.

It was pretty stupid on my part. I have 6 puck spung and put the sping side towards the flywheel which ur not supposed to. Luckly I took pics of everything and was able to pin point it. Hey it happens.

you may have one of two things going on. Either the clutch disc could be installed incorrectly. Or the clutch disc spring or pressure plate has come apart which is hanging clutch engaged at all times. You will have to remove trans and inspect clutch disc and pressure plate to see whats going on.

it just seems weird that it was fine and then was just broken. The only moving we did was in 2nd gear rolling it back and 4th a bit for the timing, and the car wasnt jakced up at nay point.

will this require me to replace any parts? I rolled it down the drive way in rteverse with the clutch in and you could hear a noise on every revolution of the wheels, so Im sure the clutch isnt disengaging, atleast not all of the way. I am trying to sell the car, wasnt expecting this, so I need to get this fixed ASAP. Will I need to buy anything? And, can I take the cv out of the passenger side any way other than hub bolt or swinging the suspension out?

It was from the stock setup, so I assume so. We are going to take the tranny off soon

Didnt get it off yet, but becuase I am selling the car on friday I'd like to get all of the parts in. Do I then just need a new pressure plate, and not friction disc? Or is there still a chance of it being repared? Is 89 bucks for the OEM one of hondaautomotiveparts.com a good enough price, or could i find cheaper

only one way to tell what needs to be replaced
drop the trans and inspect it
you may need new pressure plate, or clutch disc, or both

Going to try some penatrating lube in it first. The way I see it, the clutch had nor eason to break just sitting there especially concidering it was perfect before. So, I'm going to spray in some pentrating lube with the assumption thta it has rusted onto the spline given how much condensation was on my garage floor
Sprayed the lube in there, and I can get it into gear now! 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. 5th was pretty hard, so i didnt push it. While the dust cover was off I looked at the flywheel and it was wobbling like a bitch. We arent sure why, though, becuase we torqued the star bolts down to spec with a snap on torque wrench, and it seemed fine originally. We are gonna take the tranny off tomorrow, but Im curious as to what you guys think it may be.
I've actually had a Prelude in my shop a couple of times now for the flywheel bolts continually backing out. Don't know why either. This last time, we applied red locktite to the bolts and then torqued them to spec. Hasn't been back yet...

We took the tranny off the car today, same situation as you! Fly wheel bolts were backed out, one was waaaay the hell outand none were tight. We put some red lock tight in, like you, and torqued those bitches. We're having a bit of troubekl getting the he tranny back on, but ill let you all know tomorrow!
