b16a5
DId a quick post. Just wanted to double check that a b16a5 was 170hp and will it pass emissions in NJ does anyone know. Its from a 2nd Gen del sol, 95, JDM. My car is a theft recovery and needs to get a salvaged title and I don't know yet if I have to go to DMV to have them check it out. And it will mount up right to a integra gsr engine bay correct.
i don't know about NJ, but in NYC... if you have a salvage title... they check out the numbers on everything... they don't give a **** if it will pass emisions or not. It's just to get a title. If you have a fairly new catalytic converter on your car, then it shouldn't have a hard time passing emissions (as long as it's not burning too much oil either)

If there is such an an engine B16A5, it's probably a Euro-spec engine. I've seen pics of a B16A4 before, so B16A6 is probably out there too.
As stated above though, 1993-1995 Del Sol VTEC had the B16A3.
1996-1997 Del Sol VTEC had the B16A2.
JDM B16A engines have no siffix at all - they simply read "B16A" and nothing more unless it's an ultra-rare old-*** first -gen that reads "B16A1" which is very rare.

He said this is what is on the block
b16a
5704054
and there is no VIN accordin to him or he doesn't see it. He seems honest about it and seems like he did own it, but I still need to make sure it passes the title inspection at DMV

I have no clue about your inspections, but if the block is older than the car 99% of the time you fail automatically, and some states automatically fail you if you cannot determine the year or if it's JDM.
Look on the head itself just above where the header bolt to the head (exhaust ports) and there will be a number stamped on the head.
8/9 means it's a 90 model, 9/3 means it's a 94 model, etc. etc.

It might have come from a 1995 Del Sol, but it's NOT the original stock engine.
The block should read B16A3 if it's the original 1995 Del Sol VTEC engine.
He's a liar if he says otherwise.

Ok my dad said he just talked to a guy that rebuilt a couple stolen mercedes, and he said somethin that I have to have a salvage title on the car before I can register it and take it to DMV for inspection. I was under the impression that I take the car to get inspected, when its passed then it gets the salvage title. And he made it sound like the guy said not all cars get the salvage title, and I have to go to DMV main headquarters in NJ to do so. Anyone know?
