How long till it blows?
Hey, I know this is a to much of an open ended question but.. I just boosted my 98 honda prelude. I know all about the sleeve probs and ringland probs it has when under boost. I have a t04e Turbo running 7psi boost, 450cc injectors, SAFC2, 255lph fuel pump, and a 2 degree ignition retard. I didnt get the sleeves done im planning on doing sleeves rods pistons this coming winter. With your experiences do you think i will make it threw the summer? Thanks. and sorry for the STUPID QUESTION
If you actually tune the motor it should be fine for a very long time boosting 7psi given that you do the required turbo maintanance to the motor. Also, I don't know if retarding it 2 deg is such a great idea. It's only 7psi.... Take it to the dyno and then mess with your timing and fuel settings.
What exactly do you mean you are pulling 2 degrees of timing, i.e. what are you using to do that? I would suggest at least .6 deg/psi on a stock bottom end, more if you are using the afc hack.

You will get detonation in the mid range with stock timing at 7 psi.

so i got two different answers about timing retard. I am getting it dynod but its in the end of april. So should i retard the ignition. Thats the only thing that i havnt done. because some people say to some people say not. 7psi is not alot im just wondering from people with experience
A good rule of thumb is to retard your timing .75 degrees per psi of boost. Basically what I am telling you to do is to take your car to have tuned THEN mess with your timing. I ran stock timing on my h23a with 8psi untuned (that was before I knew about tuning and what not) and i had zero problems. I would not do this over again knowing what I know today.

^^^Inquiring minds want to know.
I know I said .6 deg/psi, but I would agree with Anthony and err on the side of caution, go with at least .75 deg/psi, and again more if you are using the afc hack (the afc hack causes timing advance during boost).

I'm interested also, since you can't back it off by turning the distributor...

Does it? I didn't know that!

so i should really think about getting a MSD because thats the only thing that retards it enough before the computer tries to put it back to stock. SHIYITT! another few hundred bucks!

i had the same setup. minus the fuel pump. made 257whp at 6.5 psi and timing retarded 5 degrees via msd digi6+.

hey try to not get on it too hard until you hit the dyno. i know its hard not to, but try to fight the temptation. the only way to set up the car correct is to dyno tune it.

Yes, if you don't have something to retard timing, you should get a device such as an MSD BTM, something that will let you dial in a certain amount of retard per pound of boost. You cannot change your timing at the distributor on a 5th gen, the timing is controlled by the ecu.

do you already have some kind of aftermarket igntion? if so leave it and get a hondat or simlar tuning device. much better tuning. it will last longer and make more power
