Default Rant... interesting.

Here is my though process.. it's to stir up a debate, rather than an argument. I wanna see people's point of views.

I originally wanted for the longest time to do a EG hatch, do an engine swap.. and turbo it, have fun with it. It's what alot of people wanna do, yes.. but.. main questions are, which engine?

H22A - (I'm sure you'll get a big debate on that engine) From what I've heard it makes a nice lil rice rocket, but.. if you retain your AC (which is a damn must in AZ) then you will have a pretty rough idle I've heard. But to get the swap done I've heard prices around 4k-5k to get it dropped in.

B18C1 - Good platform, 10:1 compression, but if you don't plan on boosting tons, just maybe 9-10 psi.. it'll do nicely as long as you tune it well. But, GSR engines are costly, getting a bit cheaper but still costly. I believe after you got this dropped in it would run you around 4-5k as well. Depends where you get it, you do it yourself, etc.

Now you spend 3k on a decent hatch with high miles.. but the engine and drop it in for 4-5k.. turbo it for about 2k (not a turbo kit.. you piece things together etc. and this is a rough estimate..)

3,000
4,500
2,000

9,500 bucks

Now same idea.. get a Nissan s13 coupe/hatch.. decent car.. 2,000.. even a shell for cheaper.. drop an SR20DET into it.. and throw a FMIC, BOV, Boost Controller, Exhaust, etc.. and be around 5,000 bux.. drop a Big28 on it or another turbo that mounts right up for around 800 bux.. crank up the boost, add some fuel.. 500 bux
and have a smooth ride that is RWD and will decimate all at racewars.. hahaha but yea i'd be pretty quick.. quicker than a GSR hatch, just as quick as an H22 but with less problems probably.

2,000
5,000
800
500
8,300

I guess it all really depends on your cup of tea, hell I don't even think I'll get a chance to modify a car again unless I open my own shop and say "Hunny, I'm spending this money on the shop car because it's used for advertisement and to show what we can do, etc." LOL But I wanted to see what people think about both routes, criticism welcomed.. pro con.. all that good shiz..

than sell your hatch and go join the new bandwagon....

Or buy a 86 Dodge Omni for 200 bucks, 350 SBC for 500, spend 500 to get it installed and running, and kill both cars.

It's called COMPLETELy different cars

Hatch for $3000, K20A-R with all the necessary items to bolt it into said EG $6000 from K20EG = $9000 and it'll move like a raped ape. This isn't a debate, it's a question of preference. Do you want to be a 20-something year old "kid in a Honda" or do you want to be a "bandwagon poser" in an SR20DET 240? It's up to you.

I'm not sure what kind of debate you're trying to spark up here?

But the H22 vs b18c, turbowise i'd rather have the B18C what it would cost for expandibility to make the h22 faster then what you'll have it at would be a waste when you can do the same with the b18, ie forged pistons/rods.

Any other car you mod is hella cheaper. Supply and demand, most modified cars are civics. Heirgo they jack up the prices. You could buy a race engine 4g63 built for 500 hp for what it would cost to buy a b18c swap. In all honesty i'd rather have a s13, less likely to be stolen.

This doesn't really make sense to me. In the true sense, it's all about going fast isn't it? If it just happens to be the cheapest way going sr20det, what's the problem. It's not really a bandwagon, just a quasi better route. Why the hatin?

Oh Jesus if it's all about just going fast then why not go the tried and trued route of an 89 Mustang LX 5.0 and add either a built N/A engine that could easily bust off low 12's or throw on a Pro Charger and run low 11's, high 10's in street trim.

Emerika hit it on the head - two totally different cars.
