Swapping into an EG need some advice on the Engine of Choice
Ive done a little research on this but I cant make up my mind
Ive got an 93 Civic hatch project in mind and my friend wants to sell me his hatch which was newly worked on and painted and now I cant figure out which engine to drop into the car, now this is where you all come in. I have two engines in mind for this swap I have access to the both of them and their in great condition im just asking for Pros and Cons you all might have reguarding this little project im planning. If you can think of a better engine to drop into this and im excluding the C30 and C32 becuz I cant afford those and theyre uber hard to find but heres the ideas;
Either a K20A JDM ITR engine 220Hp and 152Ft. Lbs of Torque 22k miles $4,600
or a JDM Prelude H22A Sir Engine 220Hp and 161 Ft. lbs of Torque 40k miles $4,800
Just let me know what yall think I should do and as always I appreciate all information I get
Thnx Alot,
NCTEG

if its between those two engines at those prices, I would go with the ITR K20 hands down.
of course, for $4600-$4800 + the money you'd get for the B16 you could have a stock internal LS turbo that will own both of them, or you could pick up a regular H22 for like $1600 or so and then drop in the type-S pistons for a few hundred bucks, but whatever floats your boat.

Im not going to turbo the car Im just looking for a little more power to help out im going to do some bolts ons and ill be satisfied with about 250hp this is going to be a showcar im going to make it JDM style like the civic type rs even though there wasnt a type r for this year im going to try to bring up that style.
And what is it abnout the LS engine that makes it superior with a turbo?
I have a B18C around right now but i dont want to drop it into a civic I want to go with something more extravagent that isnt to common.

the JDM SIR model im going for but im adding civic Type R Vinyl to the sides
If my 00 ITR doesnt sell then Ill be dropping most likely a K20 into it but if it sales then yeah, IM looking for pros and cons on the engines I listed if you dont have anything relevant to my topic please dont post...

H22
Pros - More torque than b-series, a tiny spec more power than the ITR/CTR, torque, torque, torque.
Cons - Understeer, Weight, Clearance issues of aftermarket intake manifolds, doesn't matter how clean it looks, it'll never match the cleanliness of a b-series. Turbo clearance, radiator fan- slave cylinder clearance, ghetto mounting of cable linkage. If your rear motor mount goes bad, expect to break something near the firewall.
K20
Pros - Everything
Cons - Here'$ two thing$ off the top of my head.

isnt the H22A JDM Type S engine rated at 220 HP and 161 Tq.? and the JDM ITR k20a is 220 Hp and 152 Tq. Its lighter and smaller too...wouldnt the more practical choice be with the K20A?

LOL... is that the only reason you're exluding the NSX engines... or perhaps because they really don't belong in a Civic and fit well in one.

Definately go K20 over H22 type S if you have the money to swap in the k20...
However, why are you bashing on h22's about ride quality. Have you ever driven in a h22 hatch that was done right? Once you got a good suspension and some custom axles everything should be butter. The h22 swap is not as hard as everyone says it is. I never did a swap before in my life, and the first swap I did was a h22 into a 95 coupe. With HCP mounts it is basically bolt in, no welding like the hasport mounts if I remember right....
I have never done a K20 swap, but I heard its not easy for sure. However, if I had a choice between Kseries or H, I would definately go with the K20.
Hmotorsonline.com sells the H22 type S for 3500 for the motor tranny ecu.
4600 is a nice price for a K20 though, if you have the money, go K20 man....
Good luck with your choice, hope I helped some what.

what are you talking about... I've only used HAsport mounts for that swap and never had to weld anything
