Default Another timing belt tension/tensioner question

I am doing a valve adjustment/cam plug replacement and noticed my timing belt has alot of play in it. almost 3/8" both ways between cams. Is this too much? Can't loosen tensioner bolt. Is this bolt reverse thread? Help please! 94 B18C1

Tensioner bolt is right-hand thread, just like normal. It's just tight & hard to get a socket in there. Keep the socket square on the bolt, so you don't round it off.

You should be able to twist the belt just 90 degrees in the middle of the long span from the crank up to the exhaust cam. I'm not sure, but seems like mine felt kinda loose up there between the cams, but I checked the long span & it was OK. It's not supposed to be TIGHT like your AC belt...

Sounds like it wasn't tensioned properly when it was put on.

To correct the tension, get a service manual and follow the intructions on how to do it.
