Timing Belt
Hi guys, I'm new here. My dad and me are changing out my timing belt and we ran into some problems. The manual says leave the 14 millimeter adjusting bolt loose while rotating about one full rotation counterclockwise with out manually putting stress on the belt. It also has a 10 millimeter locknut on the timing belt wheel, when is this supposed to be locked? We found out that by putting a 10mm locknut on and snugging the 14 millimeter adjusting bolt after giving the bolt tension by using a screwdriver on the arm that it kept the belt from hopping teeth when rotated.
Is this wrong? I do not understand how this spring is supposed to automatically tension it. When the 14 adjusting nut is loose it keeps hopping the teeth on the camgears when rotated.

I do it the same way you did. Have the adjusting bolt a little loose then do a small rotation to put tension in the belt then tighten the adjusting bolt down. I usually install the 6.0x10mm lock bolt as well once tension is achieved.
