doing major work on my car with timing belt.. need sugestions
im getting my timing belt changed because it broke the other day.. its a b18a motor and im wondering if theres anything else i should get done at the same time
im also getting the cam plug and the valvestem seals changed at the same time and am gonna look into the waterpump
car has 114k miles on it.. are there any other parts i should get the mechanic to check out or anything maybe change any cheap parts that people dont change because of all the work it needs to do it?

If your timing belt broke, you should have your head looked at. You most likely bent some valves. This happened to me a while back, and it turned out that I had 8 bent valves. You should change the water pump, and tensioner while you're in there. If you want to do some fun stuff while the head is off (or accessible), you should look into some cams, and valve springs. Crower makes a decent set for a decent price.
Good luck!
Good luck!
no money for cams...
does the tentioner wear out quick or something?
as far as i can tell.. nothing inside the motor got damaged.. i was sitting at a redlight and the motor just killed...no noises or anything.. and when i pulled the valvecover off everything looks good
as for the water pump.. how many miles do they usualy last?.. because anything more i want to get done i gotta pay for.. and is there anything i can look at on the waterpump to decide if it needs changing or not?

Actually, at idle you've got a better chance, maybe the cam just stopped with all the valves closed. But you can't always tell if they're bent just from the valve cover. You'll find out soon enough...

When I changed my timing belt, I inspected the pump & it looked good. The bearings were nice & smooth, so....
But 15 months later it was leaking. YMMV. I wasn't too angry, because I did the work myself. But it still killed an afternoon when I coulda been doing something else. The reason you do them together is once the timing belt is off, it's only 5 more bolts for the pump. If you're paying shop labor, that's a LOT.

I would definately go with a new water pump, might as well. I would also think about an oil pump, but that's just me. I love new shiny parts on my engine and sometimes I can't help myself but replace parts when given the opportunity.
Good luck on those valves too.
edit: just realized you are having someone else do the work. Maybe forget the oil pump and save the labor costs.

when the guy pulled the thing apart it had the factory waterpump.. 114k miles on it.. it was so fucked up i dont think it woulda lasted much longer.. it would move all directions like 0.5cm..

Had one on a '86 Jetta, where the bearings started getting loose. Once I took off the belt, I could wobble the pulley quite a bit. It made a rattling noise when the impeller hit the housing. But the seals weren't leaking. The pump on my Integra started leaking, but the bearings were still tight & smooth...
