Default Thoughts on changing the timing belt on a jdm motor before going in the car.

I just wanted to know what everyone thought about this. I know the motors are supposed to have about 30K miles on them and all, but should I change the belt anyways??

Definetly change it before it goes in the car. I don't feel like seeing a thread that's titled:

"HELP!!! My timing belt just broke and bent up all my valves. Now my head is trashed and i have no money to fix it and my girlfriend just left me becuase i don't have a car anymore and my dog tried to bite me because he thinks i'm an idiot for not changing my timing belt and water pump when i had the motor out of the car...."

or something like that....

I would change all the parts that are usually a pain if the motor is in the car. Way easier when the motor is sitting on your garage floor rather than in the engine bay.

If your on a budget trying to do a swap this is a must.
If you NOT on a budget this is a no brainer.

Good luck with the swap

ALWAYS change the timing belt, ALWAYS change the water pump. You don't know how old they are OR how many miles are on them. Age can be as much a factor as miles. its cheaper than the new motor you'll have to buy if the waterpump siezes and snaps the timing belt or it the belt snaps on its own. If you can afford a swap you can afford to do it the right way. if you don't and things break its your own fault and don't cry about the BAD engine So-and-so sold you.

Most people change only timing belt and water pump, but just as important, change the tensioner and thermalstat
