Whats up H-T
Timing belt slipped the other day when driving home
what is recommended to replace when installing a new timing belt
belt, tensioner? water pump? etc.

Unfortunately your probably gonna need valves too man...
Plus taking your head off maybe gettin the valveseats machined... yeaaaaaa.

But yea do your tensioner and water pump too!!!

Well how bad did it slip and how far did you drive around like that? I say your valves are fine if you only went a few blocks. But if your doing your timing belt i would replace waterpump, oil pump, tensioner and of course obvious timing belt.

I only went like 15 feet when the car shut off on me..
I was kinda thinking the head might be damaged, im just going to pop off the valve cover and check.
This motor was put together last year and im pretty sure water/oil pump were replaced then..would they still need to be replaced?!
And if anything has happened to my head, well I guess its a good reason to have it built

if it was replace last year i wouldnt even mess with it unless you have money out your ***. But i say your head is good.

im going to pop the valve cover off and take a look at the valvetrain and go from there about the head..
would going aftermarket on the belt/tensioner be ok or should I just got OEM?
another thing is ive never done tmiing on my vehicle, i know the basics, just curious if theres any tips/hints i should be aware of..

OEM is my best friend. timing is pretty stright foward on a honda

what he said and just incase u didnt know the cams have the marks on them and do does the crankshaft just make sure u have them align

What year and model Civic?

Normally replace:
timing belt
tensioner if it was not changed last time or the bearings seem bad
water pump (but since you replaced it last year, skip this)
front crank seal
front cam seal
accessory belts (alternator, power steering, a/c compressor)

Spend at least a few days figuring out how you will free the crankshaft pulley bolt. This is one of the big hurdles for TB jobs on Hondas. Several options for freeing it exist.

autozone.com has a free online manual specific to your Civic that is pretty good for TB replacements. Even with the shop manual, most folks need tips from Honda-Tech or buddies with experience.

I do have one more question though..
if the vehicle jumped timing would my motor even turn over?!
I was talking to a mechanic friend of the family and he said it would just click
I think thats not 100% accurate, and BTW im getting a fast, high pitched clicking noise
maybe no compression it sounds like..
another thing my cam gear marks are not aligned properly as it is now. i believe exh cam. is 8oclock position and intake is like 3oclock..idk if thats how they were when the motor was running but that kinda seems like a problem knowing they are supposed to be aligned..

DO NOT try to turn it over your timing is way off. If you keep turning you could f**k up the valves and ****. I would take the timimg belt off re-aligned everything and put the belt back on and then try to turn it over. The cam gears arrow should always be in the same clock position.

Alright I guess ill align everything back up and go from there..hopefully will be running again soon

There is a good chance that you bent the valves when your belt broke. And if your lucky you can replace the belt and try to see if it starts. All depending on the motor you have. And if your oil pump is new than I wouldn't worry about your front main seal considereing that woulld be new too

the belt never broke, possibly slipped, im havng a no start issue and checked everythign i can think of..
im going to rotate the engine manually to see if all my marks line up to TDC
if not im going to go ahead and retime the engine..
