Default Suspension removal (rear)

Hi, I'm having trouble removing the struts from the rear of my '98 lude. All I took off was the main bolt holding it to the axle, but the strut is so long I can't get it off of the axle. What's getting caught is the end of the strut where it is C shaped.

Is there some other parts I need to removal also?

Thanks.

It's not that hard; remove all bolts holding it all together, move everything out of the way that's in the way, and pull the struts out

not sure if its the exact same but on my 95 i jumped up and down on it. seriously. and just in case you're installing energy suspension bushings- use a goddamn hydraulic press. took me two days to switch over one upper control arm mount. weak. good luck!

just push the lower control arm down a little, and you can get it out.

I jumped on the brake assembly for 3 hours. At one point I had the strut off the lower control arm but then it was caught on some other things preventing me from sliding it out; like the upper wishbone and sway bar. My friend didn't want to take any major parts off cause he was afraid that we can't get them back on. Yes the 2 top bolts holding the strut was taken off. The strut is just so damn long!

So we end up spending another hour jumping on the brake trying to get the strut back on the arm to bolt back up. I knew it looked too simple at first.

LudeyKrus--what other parts did you take off?

Thanks.

Did you disengage the upper ball joint? Also make sure you jack up the whole rear of the car together. I initially made the mistake of jacking up one side of the car until I realized that the anti-sway bar was fighting me. Jack up the whole rear and it should come down easy. You still have to fish it out some but it comes out. Check out the write-up at http://www.ntpog.org/mods/fift...shtml. Rears are on the second page.

aschue, thanks for the link. That explains everything. Yes, the car was on jack stands when I was working on it.

Thanks again.
