Default B20 cyl. walls, how weak are they? (searched)

Im thinking of doing a B20z vtec with a GSR head with a 10PSI jackson charger.
But I keep reading about the cyls are too thin and crack easy. What can I do to fix this? Or are people cracking then due to poor tuning? Or would it be smarter to go B18vtec. Thanks for you help?

well the only things that cause walls to break are pinging and distortion which cause the walls to crack

high compression motors that are not tuned have alot of cylinder pressure and well pinging and detonation have adverse effects of the walls causing them to crack

boosting same applies with the cylinder having alot of cylinder pressure amd the top of the cylinder sleeves are open making it the weakest part. factory boosted engine have closed deck engines do this for added strength so people add those block guards. ( I personally would rather sleeve )

What sleeves are the best value for the money? whats it going to cost to have them installed? If a sleeve cracks will there be any problems with the motor, besides the crack? Im asking if I wait till it cracks will the motor be Ok for sleeves and pistions!!! Thanks for all your help

If you were gonna build a b20 for boost you could prolly get away with just installing a block gaurd, good girdle, and some arp headstuds. Rods would be a real good idea also. Sleeving the block is expensive, and if ur not going more than 10psi u could get away with whats listed.

dont wait until it does! you will have more down time get a hold of RS sleeves pm the user here. dont know the price of hand. but trust me if it crack you will then inturn maybe hyrdro lock the motor and throw a rod out the block and then the block is then inturn trashed! I am trying to help you take note of what I am telling you trust me I have seen this asked a 1000 times and half do it and half dont it's up to you man good luck
