Turns over w/ fuel but wont spark to start
Please help if you can! My 94 Civic is getting fuel to the spark plugs, but after lots of testing, there is no spark going to the plug wires. Coil is fine too. I just put performance plug wires on, switching out the originals could that of caused a problem?
Also, I just put an AEM cold air intake on a few weeks ago, could that cause for a bad sensor or something? I love my Honda and I have never had problems, this is a huge bummer!
Too strange!

I checked the voltage coming out of the coil, electronic egnition, etc. everything coming from the distributer cap seemed fine, same voltage mechanics expected. There was one funny thing though, the spring coming from the coil was bent and seemed to not be getting a good connection, I guess thats the next step to switch that out. I already changed the dist. cap and rotor. I dont know what else to do because there if fuel and power, but no spark from cap to plugs. It would at least run with a bad sensor or on less than four cylinders right? It has to be something from under the dist cap right?
I just started concidering the timing belt, but I dont know what to look for if it is that. It was wierd b/c it started, then died, then it just turns over now with no spark from the cap to the plugs. It was running pretty good just earlier that day. It idles kind of low, but I thought that was my stereo system. It struggled starting after sitting overnight and then it started and stalled later that day.
Big question: Will it not spark if there is a timing belt problem??? What about the electoninc ignition thingy under the dist cap?

if the timing belt was broken, the rotor wouldn't turn when the car is cranking thus no spark down the wires. the little spring being bent could be causing problems also(but unlikely).
with the dizzy cap off crank the car and see if the rotor is turning, if so then the timing belt is fine (or at least intact). second, see if the coil is discharging. I've seen a friend take a long screwdriver from the coil to a ground and look for spark while cranking.
Also, just because the coil is getting power doesnt' mean it's firing...just means that you don't have a blown fuse in the ignition system.
pick up a coil from autozone (around $70) and replace yours, if it still doesn't fire then just take the coil back.

Wow this forum is really great! You have been a Tremendous help. You are good w/ the coil discharging thing, Im checking that next.
That makes sense. The rotor does turn when I crank it so thats good. It wasn't the spring.
I didn't know you could return electrical parts. Man I hope its the coil, cuz im hearing the electronic ignition thing and the timing belt run into some $$$$. I do have a timing belt right. Those are supposed to be replaced for maintenance aren't they.

Thanks - belt!
Turned out great. I tested the coil w/ a screwdriver, and it really was bad (discharging). Replaced that and w/everyone betting against me, it turned over and eventually started after plugs dried out! I knew my Sally wouldn't let me down! Thank God I tested it w/ the sc dr because I was told it was fine putting out 12v. I could of wasted a lot of $! H-T is awesome!
Shouldn't of changed wires w/o new dizzy and rotor I bet!

Could be your distributor has gone bad. If your timing belt was broken/bad then you would still get spark. Just recheck your wires/ plugs and also your fuses. My friend had his ignition fuse go bad (Under the hood) Check all fuses, even ones that have nothing to do with your ignition. Better safe then sorry.
Good luck man
