Are cryo treated rotors legal in Stock?
Im pretty sure they are legal even though the rulebook doesn't specifically state that. Plus, it's impossible to tell a cryo-treated rotor from a non cryo-treated rotor.

Technically, No (it doesn't say you can, so you can't).
But, as Matt mentioned, there isn't a way to differentiate cryo from non-cryo.

My understanding is that coatings and platings are not legal. However, since cryogenically treating a rotor does not put a coating or plating on the rotor, that it is, in fact, legal by exclusion.

From the Solo Rulebook:
13.6 Brakes
A. The make and material of brake linings may be changed.
B. [SS braided lines] on all cars manufactured before modle year 1992.
That is all it says.

Do cryo-treated rotors make that much of a difference for a SoloII car? My understanding is that cryo-treating reduces the rotor's tendency to warp and crack, but I wasn't aware of any performance benefit otherwise. Have you had rotor-life issues previously?
Technically I think Crack Monkey's right. It's not in there, so no go.
I'm curious if you've had problems with the brakes too - or are the same brakes seeing duty on road courses?

Warping -none yet but I consistently warped rotors on my delSol. Of course, the ITR has much better brakes and I have learned to drive better. But I am going to start LFB next season and may be heating them a lot more.
I've begun upping the ante on the whole brake system with better than stock pads, better than stock fluid, speed bleeders and thought this might be a logical step.

Alan

I'm running a set of cryo'd rotors with Porterfield R4 pads (F and R), and it seems to have made the rotors wear noticably less.
However, I am comparing the R4 & cryo'd rotor set-up, with running Porterfield R4E pads on non-cryo'd rotors (which really "machined" the rotors during street use). FWIW

This is how I see it too. I can't see how anyone would protest you over this, unless they are the largest ******* ever.

Where did you get your cryo'd rotors and how much did it cost.. I EAT rotors! Might wanna give them a try..
I've recently spoken with Dean at Applied Rotor Technologies (see post https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=74080 ), and we were discussing a price of $85 ea (F/R) for non-slotted/cryo'd/nickel plated (washed) rotors (still about $30 per for the cryo treatment). /Ed
If road racing, YES.
17.37. CRYOGENIC TREATMENT
Cryogenic treatment of components is allowed unless specifically
prohibited in the category or class preparation rules.
