Default Replaced Axle Shaft - New Vibration Now

Hello,

I replaced the right side axle shaft in my '89 Prelude this weekend. During the test drive, I noticed that there is a new vibration under accelleration now between about 25 mph and 35 mph. Anyone have an idea about what might cause this??

Also, anyone know what the proper torque spec for the axle nut is??

Thanks,

Eric

IIRC the spindle nut should be torqued to 181ft/lbs.

Check your tierod ends, tire air pressure and alignment. Also just try to inspect everything to ensure that nothing is damaged or worn.

Also could be a bad axle. It happens from time to time.

vibrations under accelleration is usually due to a bad inner cv... maybe it's the OTHER axle that's the problem now? Just a thought...

Both of these axels were new in 2000. I had to replace this one again because the outer boot ripped and the joint failed. Before going after the right side this weekend, I did not have any vibration like this. Seems odd that both axels would have failed after realtivly low mileage.

I'm sure I don't have that spindle nut at 181 ft/lbs. Could that be it??

check your lug nuts, wheel bearing and also try inspecting your brakes.

After checking all of this stuff out and not finding anything, I replaced the axel shaft with another new one. Problem Fixed. I guess as Sepro suggested, I did get a bad new shaft.

Thanks for all of the help,

Eric
