just a quick question here HT-

what is a good/easy way to separate the axle from the midshaft on the drivers side? all the tutorials i have read have only covered taking the axle off the passenger side where it connects directly into the transmission.

i have the drivers side assembly out of the car, but i am having trouble just getting the axle and the rest of the midshaft apart.


any ideas?

i had the same issue. for me it was just finding something that i could apply enough leverage on because of the big gap between the axe and half shaft so i didn't tear up the seal on the halfshaft. i just used a big pry bar and something to put against the half shaft to protect it and it popped out after so persuasion.

I get under the car, take a smaller hammer and touch it to the axle hub inbetween the axle and halfshaft.. the hammer will be just on the lip of the axle hub.. then take a larger hammer and smack the smaller hammer.. gets it out every time no stress.. little hard to understand without pics but if you get under the car and look you will know exactly what I mean

I used vice grips to hold it I believe, mine was out of the car too

I have this long, really old screwdriver that isn't good for anything else, but it works awesome for getting axles out. A pry bar also works, just the bend actually gets in the way.

yeah this is what i thought i'd have to do. i've been lazy so i havent gotten around to it but i'll just try to rubber mallet/pry/hammer/screw/etc the thing off eventually.
