Default Some thoughts about Viscosity and Oil pressure for Turbocharged Hondas

one way to change oil is to go by 3K mile rule.. heres something i thought of recently.. so correct me if i'm wrong:

you may wonder whats the use for that oil pressure gauge in front of you.. heres one. oil viscosity would be reflected in oil pressure reading

if you ever noticed how oil pressure is higher after oil change and lower towards the end.. well, that may be one way to tell when you need your oil to be changed, if your oil pressure is below normal then your oil is running thinner so it maybe time for an oil change

i personally am not too worried about the viscosity of the oil, but rather the junk that the oil picks up. metal, carbon buildup etc.

Good observation though

there is a neat little valve in the oil pump which makes sure the engine has consistent oil pressure under load, regardless of viscosity...

How does the valve operate?

consistant, but if your oil starts to loose viscosity, it will be consistantly lower readings.

thats another issue.. somewhat related to viscosity
thinner oil won't lubricate as well as thicker oil.. with more heat, oil gets thinner, so if it looses viscosity there will be more wear because of less lubrication. choosing a good oil filter can lead to less junk floating around.
