did something get fucked?
ok i have a 1999 Si and 1 of my friends (who is an excellent 5 speed driver) wanted to drive my car ( mistake
) , so he lets be drive his sometimes so i said ok. Well we get goin, we are in first, the tach reads 7 then 7.5 then 8 and im thinking shift ************, then it gets to about 8.4- 8.5 before he shifts. i didnt hear it hit the limiter but he may have shifted just as it did. ok now heres my question. could anything have gotten fucked up when he pulled this idiot move, or was my engine life decreased from him reving so high? thanks for your help.

you're going to need a rebuild. the b16a has one of the worst rod/stroke ratios ever, as well as polymer (plastic) valvesprings. anything over 7000 RPMs kills it.

i think ur good. once when i was pissed i pushed the **** outta my car a bounced it off the rev limiter a couple times. didnt do nothing. that was about a year ago. just dont keep doing it or else youll be going throug your 3rd tranny like me.
Don't worry about it, the motor can handle it. It may have looked like it was at 8500, but if you have a stock ecu, it should have cut out before hitting that high. Even if it didn't, it's just a bit passed redline, it'll be fine.
wtf?
Dang give the poor guy a piece of mind, and stop f'ing with him. I'm sure his pissing in his pants about whether or not his engine is ok. Your B16 will be fine, as some of the other posters have said... just dont do it too often or else u might need a new engine

Did u have a problem starting the car? i did it at the track. i shut it down for about 15 min...and when i started it back up... it took a lil longer then usual. thats the only problem i've had when i went over rev. u should be good. i did that a yr ago. i'm still running.
omg dude honda engines..especially b-series engines are built to rev high. thats why the si redlines at 7800. i used to take my si to the limit everytime i pushed it and it didnt show any problems. i just have my valve clearance checked every 7000 miles. you're fine man! try doing it yourself, its fun!
