redlining??
hey i was recently driving in my friends car and he showed me that it is ok to go past redline up to where the fuel cut off line is (about 7800). so i tried it on my car and by the time i reached redline it was literally about to blowup, let alone pass it. i was wondering what do you think could be so different with the two cars? they're the exact same car(year, model, etc). it also seemed like his car would accelerate faster. any ideas? thanks a lot
well...i have v2 intake...and its more of a short ram so it gets really loud, and when it hits redline it bounces like a couple mm to the left, but wont really pass it. in my friends car it passed it with ease and a lot quicker. do you think it could be the way i installed my intake? hoses were connected incorrectly?
no he doesnt have one yet...tho hes gettin hondata soon, but it bounces a little to the left at about 7200, redline pretty much. can ur car pass redline? my friend said it was a flaw honda made that the fuel cut off line was always passed the redline on the rpm gauge...

you don't....
I've always thought it read higher to prevent people from bouncing off the rev limiter
I don't understand, sounds to me like you are trying to bounce off it
If you account for the inaccuracy and rev slightly past the redline it will allow you to stay w/in vtec for the next shift..

My tach will read 7900rpm on my SH, but according to my dyno sheet the engine is only at 7700rpm.
Yes, you can run it past redline until you hit the rev limiter. Redline - 7400rpm (tach) / Rev Limiter - 7900rpm (tach)
Notice there is a difference between the two.

wtf - i try to stay 200 rpm below redline to stay safe... are you people telling me i should be going for at least redline possible 200 over is actually redline ... is this supost to be true in all hondas or just preludes ... all preludes are just 5th gen's ? wtf
I don't know if the gearing is different between the 4th and 5th gen H22's, but in order for me to stay in VTEC when shifting 1-2, I pretty much have to bounce it off the rev limiter. After that first shift I don't rev it quite as high. 2-3 I do around 7400 (tach), and for any shifts over 3rd I try to shift around 7000 (tach).
yo im his 'friend' and i thought hti sis how preludes are? redline is at liek 7200 , but fuel cut is at 7800. same with theother guys in my club . this is what it reads

ya i know but jus wana know why napalms fuel cut shows at 72 and mine at 78

I have plenty of power all the way till fuel cut off. I never shift unless i'm nicely into the red and my car loves it
...and yes the stock tack is normally off and reads a few 100 PRM too high.
(this is when i'm out on the race track)
