O2 sesnor socket
I'm looking to pick up an O2 sensor socket to remove the O2 off my cat which has become quite the pain in the past with a crescent wrench. I almost rounded off one edge and I would hate to strip that thing seeing its high cost.
Anyways, should I dish out the $30 for a snap on one or just pay $ for that standard autozone one?? Will the quality really matter since I am not using it that often. I would just hate to mess up an already hobbled sensor making it worse because i was too cheap to sepnd the extra $$.
TIA

I have a $30 version of that socket (not Snap-on but something equivalent) and the damn thing will not fit on the O2 socket on the cat while the cat is on the car because of clearance issues. Unlike the pre-cat O2 sensor, its wiring cannot be clipped off so you cannot remove the cat first before removing the sensor. So my $30 socket was useless and I had to use a crescent wrench.
I got a cheap one at the autoparts store and didn't have any problem at all. It was like $8 or so. I've used it numerous times with some really tough ones too.
You can't clip the wiring off the harness with the o2 in the cat? Man that sucks...the o2 sensor scares the **** outta me and I'm set to replace my whole exhaust system in two weeks...any advice anyone can give me? I REALLY dont' want to break one of those....
Sure you can unclip it. You have to pull the wiring harness down from under the floor. Then you will see the clip. There is a grommet on the O2 sensor that seals the wiring. In other words, the connector is above the floor.

I wish I knew that last week.

yeah you can pull that blue grommet out from under the floorpan. I know I would need a deep socket with that slit in it for the wiring. The type I saw from snap on didn't look like it would work. I guess I'll just try the cheap one and see how that one works out I guess.
I used a 22mm open ended wrench with no trouble at all.
Even better.. disconnect the clip that you can pull through the floor and slip the non-open ended part over top. less chance of rounding off edges.
It is MUCH easier to take off the exhaust/cat when bolted together to get leverage. Like your foot on the b-pipe or cat.

what is your cat welded to?
I meant to take off the bpipe and cat together, so unbolt the cat/bpipe from the header and from the axle back, then go crazy-go-nuts on it.

I have an older prototype Hytech b-pipe and its welded to one of their carsounds. Since the b-pipe has that damn marmon clamp, it took me over 4 hours to get that thing put on so taking it off is no longer an option
Yeah I'm in no rush. Car has to go to emissions in the next month and I have a bad carsound that has to be replaced. I wasn't sure if it was the O2 or the cat, so I put the O2 on a friend's GSR. Turned out to be the carsound. But I need to take it off his car now and get it back on mine without stripping it, plus I already extended that one.
That damn saying there is a perfect tool for every job is true, and I 've learned my lesson many a times, so i just wanna do it right.
I may be needing you soon for a lttle insight on an intake install though, seeing as you've experienced it already

I suggest using the 22mm and have a friend. Get some grassy area. One stands on it while the other takes it off. Peice of cake
